🌟 WHY AM I DOING THIS?
Hi my loves and my divas, it’s Tom here.
Hope you are doing so well amid it all. I’m thinking of you, dreaming of you.
So, for the past two years I’ve been living deep inside wires, control voltages and patch cables making my third studio album.
I truly think this record is my best yet, and something incredibly special. It has been crafted entirely by the human hand using analogue and modular synthesisers. This means that every single frequency, pulse and line was sculpted in real-time. There’s been no shortcuts, no pre-packaged computer loops, no algorithmic trickery — just pure, tactile human hand meets temperamental machine.
The record is about resistance. It started when I was kissing on the street and someone threw a bottle at us. The music is about power, confidence, and every sound, lyric and melody has been built to power you up! in the face of rising fear and hostility. I cried so many tears while making it lol. It’s a dangerous record, defiant, impatient.
Over the past few months I’ve met with lots of record labels, in no small part due to the influence of everyone who has supported the music and the live shows thus far! You!! And those meetings were very exciting. A dream come true for me. These execs hear the tracks, get very excited and then slide standard contracts across the table which detail how they would, if we were to enter a partnership, own my master rights. This means they’d own the majority of a body of work they had no hand in creating, and they would have a lot of power over what could happen to the music thereafter.
I’ve dedicated two unpaid years of my life to this project, earning money any other way I can to keep this music the music I think you will love; I’ve been living on a very very tight budget, I don’t have any personal cash or savings nor a flat that I own, and I have dedicated myself to making something that does not compromise artistically, politically, sonically. Handing over ownership of this work to a corporation that did nothing for it feels fundamentally wrong.
🤖 MUSIC IN THE AGE OF AI & STREAMING
We are living through an increasingly strange, unsettling moment in music history. Streaming services pay fractions of a penny per stream, and music is treated like endless content rather than art. All the while AI threatens to flood the landscape — our ears! — with soul-less, synthetic imitations.
This album — production, lyrics, soul — is a direct response to that growing fear. I’m a queer artist from a working class background and there have been so many moments I’ve felt tempted to take the easy route and take a little bit of money up front for a lot of work. But staying independent at this time is not just a preference: it’s an act of self-ownership and of future survival. Retaining creative control means this record will stay raw, uncompromised, and totally tied to the community it was created for.

I’m raising £5K to bring album three across the finish line with the sonic excellence it deserves.
Production, Mixing, Mastering
Modular synths are complex beasts. This money goes directly to paying world-class sound engineers, mixers and mastering geniuses who will help me bring the tracks to total high-fidelity perfection. The songs should hit like a tonne of bricks on any sound sytem… and this takes a lot of work.

I have been very nervous about doing this. I have contemplated asking for help, yet I believe in art, and my art, and increasingly feel art is a balm to our current moment.
