Aim: We're going to feed - and educate - 1600 people in Stoke on Trent; empowering those who need it the most
FEASTED CIC BELIEVES THAT EVERY PERSON IN STOKE-ON-TRENT SHOULD HAVE ACCESS TO TASTY, NUTRITIOUS AND SUSTAINABLE FOOD CHOICES AND EDUCATION
The cost of living crisis has seen a 19% increase in food costs, further restricting Stoke on Trent's disadvantaged families quality of food to takeaways, tinned, and processed food. Between April 2022 and March 2023, the distribution of food parcels in Stoke-on-Trent by a local charitable trust went up by 64% - nearly 9000 of these parcels went directly to children. We know that a malnourished diet can have a heavy impact on education, employment and health in the long term. This vicious cycle can make people with already low self esteem feel worthless and not cared for, pushing them further into a destructive lifestyle.
Food parcels are an essential part of life for many Stoke-on-Trent families, but what if we could take food charity one step further and teach people new skills which will empower them to tranform their lives for the better, for good.
It is no longer enough to provide a handout - we need to give people autonomy!
Through our 'Together Kitchen' workshops, we work with participants from marginalised sections of society to provide nutritious and budget friendly meal kits for households in our community. We're helping people to give back to their community, build a sense of pride, whilst simultaneously feeding hundreds of people in our city.
- WE PLAN TO RUN FOUR WORKSHOPS OVER FOUR MONTHS
- WE'LL BE CREATING A CIRCULAR PROGRAMME, WORKING WITH TEN VULNERABLE MEMBERS OF OUR COMMUNITY EACH TIME
- IN EACH WORKSHOP WE WILL PRACTICE RECIPES, AND PRODUCE 100 MEAL KITS WHICH CAN FEED AND EDUCATE FOUR PEOPLE PER KIT - RECIPIENTS WILL THEN BE GIVEN THE OPPORTUNITY TO PARTICIPATE IN FUTURE SESSIONS
