Together We Run: A New Fundraising Initiative to Revitalise Our Playground

In an exciting development, West Hampstead Primary School have launched a new fundraising initiative called ‘Together We Run’. This collaborative effort with the Parent-Staff Association (PSA) aims to raise vital funds for the much-needed reconstruction of the Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 playground, with the goal of achieving this by Summer 2026. However, to make this dream a reality, the school is calling on the local community for support!

Why do we need a new playground?

Playgrounds serve as essential spaces for children’s growth and development, providing them with opportunities for physical exercise, social interaction, and imaginative play. Unfortunately, our current KS1 and KS2 playground facilities need an upgrade. By investing in a new playground, we can ensure children have access to safe environments that foster their physical and emotional well-being.

Why is fundraising important?

The school believes in teaching children early about the importance of fundraising and caring for their school environment. Through this initiative, students will learn valuable lessons about teamwork, responsibility, and the impact of community engagement. Raising funds for their playground not only empowers them but also instills a sense of pride and ownership in their school grounds.

What are the staff at WHPS doing to raise money?

To kick off the 'Together We Run' initiative, several enthusiastic members of the school staff are participating in the Hackney Half Marathon on Sunday, 18th May. The headteacher, deputy head, assistant head, and home-school liaison officer are among those lacing up their running shoes to inspire the community. Their participation highlights the commitment of staff to not only support student learning but to actively engage in fundraising efforts.

On our Sports Day on Friday 20th June, students will also participate in fundraising activities on Parliament Hill, creating a fun and engaging atmosphere while promoting the importance of giving back. This event will serve as an opportunity for children to collaborate and support one another in a cause that benefits their educational environment.

Looking ahead, the school is eager to expand the initiative next year by introducing a series of sponsored races for students, their families, and staff. Moreover, efforts will be made to involve local businesses and representatives from the council, reinforcing the belief that a strong community is key to enhancing our schools.

Engaging with our diverse community is crucial. By encouraging families, local businesses, and residents to come together, we can amplify our fundraising efforts and create a more vibrant school atmosphere. The 'Together We Run' initiative not only seeks to improve our playgrounds but also aims to foster a sense of unity and shared purpose within our community.

In conclusion, the ‘Together We Run’ initiative represents an exciting opportunity for West Hampstead Primary School to come together, fundraise, and ultimately create a safe, enjoyable playground for our students. With the support of our community, we can make this vision a reality!
