🪑 Mark’s Chair for Hope – No More Empty Chairs
In Burnley, too many chairs have been left empty.
Over the past two years, suicide and drug-related deaths have risen sharply in our town. Behind each loss is a person—someone who was loved, someone who mattered. Families, friends, and communities are grieving, and many are left asking: What more could have been done?
There’s a lot of local knowledge—people on the ground know there are problems. But what we don’t have is independent, in-depth research to show exactly where the system is failing, or how services need to improve.
We’re raising funds to change that.
We’re raising money to fund community-led research, shaped by real experiences and informed by coroners’ reports. Crucially, this work will be carried out in partnership with a professional mental health researcher, ensuring the findings lead to credible, evidence-based recommendations.
This research will culminate in a clear call to action—bringing together services, communities, and local voices to create a stronger, more joined-up support system in Burnley.
This isn’t about pointing fingers—it’s about saving lives.

A movement to keep more people on the planet, to prevent more empty chairs, and to push for real, lasting improvements in how we support mental health in Burnley.
