Colombia Earthquake Appeal, Brighton
We are a group of Colombians living in Brighton, organising this in support of our home.
On Monday 10 August, a magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck the department of Chocó in western Colombia. Hundreds of people have been killed and thousands injured, with serious damage across Chocó, Valle del Cauca and the Coffee Region.
Chocó is the poorest department in Colombia, and much of it can only be reached by air or river. That makes help slower to arrive/harder to sustain, and it means the communities hit hardest are often the ones furthest from the response.
We are raising funds for organisations working directly with communities in this department: the people most often overlooked, with the fewest resources to recover and rebuild.

Join us on Thursday 27 August at Komedia, Brighton, for an evening of music, art and community in support of earthquake relief in Colombia.
The night will feature:
- Live Latin music (Salsadelic) + Salsa DJ (Julián Gómez 'El Melting Pot') and Selvasistema
- Salsa for beginners taster social
- An art market with work from La Linterna, Cali, alongside local artists
- A prize draw with prizes donated by local supporters
- Live T-shirt printing, with two exclusive designs (pay-what-you-feel)
- And more!
Tickets are pay-what-you-feel on a £5 to £15 scale, so you can choose what you're able to give.

Prize Draw - enter here
Prize Draw tickets are £3 and can be bought here as well as on the night. You choose which prize or prizes you'd like to enter for. Winners will be contacted and announced on Friday 28 August via email.
You do not need to attend the event to participate in the Prize Draw. However, one special prize is for event attendees only. There's nothing extra to pay, everyone who comes gets a physical draw number at the door as part of their entry ticket.
Where your money goes
We're donating to Red de Derechos Humanos del Pacífico Colombiano (Colombian Pacific Coast Human Rights Network), a small but established organisation founded to protect the rights and lives of people in marginalised communities on Colombia's Pacific Coast.
Since the earthquake on 10 August, they've focused on reaching communities in the department of Chocó that are incredibly hard to access, often only reachable by river or boat, several hours from anywhere. These are the communities with the least government presence, left largely on their own. They already had very little, and now have even less.
We chose them because we want our support to have the biggest impact: they're active on the ground, able to manage funds responsibly, and are already delivering verified help to the communities that need it most.
