Aim

We are raising funds for Africa on the Ball's work in Zambia during this difficult time by running 8500km (the distance of Glasgow-Lusaka)

Africa on the Ball are a Scottish charity using the power of football to change lives in disadvantaged African communities.

The charity's work and educational activities have been greatly affected by the outbreak of Covid-19. In response to the outbreak, the charity have been putting on educational workshops to members of Kalingalinga (in Lusaka, Zambia) about hygiene, sanitation, and social distancing. The charity have also distributed gloves, hand wash, soap, tissues and 150 homemade washable masks. Africa on the Ball staff and volunteers have also bought and distributed food to vulnerable community members and those most affected by the outbreak. However, there is still much to do to fight Covid-19 in Zambia.

Glasgow on the Ball are an amateur football club formed to raise funds and awareness of Africa on the Ball's work. Since 2015, we've been donating excess members' fees from matches and training sessions to the charity. Now, as a club, we're seeking to collectively run the distance of Glasgow to Lusaka (8500km) before the end of May to raise £8500 for the charity's ongoing work in Zambia and to support our fundraising efforts. Using Strava to monitor team members' daily exercise (whilst practicing safe social distancing), we will post weekly updates on the clubs' progress here.

We know times are hard and people will have been affected by the ongoing lockdown, but we want to ensure some of the world's most vulnerable communities aren't forgotten about. Therefore, any contribution you make will be greatly appreciated by everyone involved with the club and charity.

We ask project owners to honour their rewards wherever possible but please note that all pledges are donations and there is no guarantee that you will receive any rewards from the project owner. Please see Crowdfunder's Terms of Use for more information regarding rewards for pledges.
