To raise funds for myself and care to travel and visit a friend in intensive care for four nights, as they have no family to be with them.
’m raising funds for a chaperone and myself to visit a dear friend who is very unwell and may not have much time left.
This friend—who lives with dementia and is non-binary—has been a profound and life-changing presence in my life. Together, we’ve worked to raise awareness about the intersections of dementia, gender diversity, and cognitive differences. They were a pioneer in advocating for the use of pronouns in healthcare settings and have helped shape a future where dignity and inclusion are prioritized for all.
Their support and insight have been instrumental not only for me personally—helping me better understand my own gender identity and cognitive challenges—but also for countless others in our community.
Now, as they face this difficult time largely alone in the hospital, I want nothing more than to be by their side—to share time, offer comfort, and say goodbye. It feels deeply wrong that someone who has given so much to support the aging population and to fight for equity should be left without companionship in their final days.
Any support you can offer to help make this visit possible is deeply appreciated. Your generosity would allow me to honor this incredible person and the profound bond we share.
