Helping me play rugby in the UK with the Emirates Falcons at the Rosslyn Park School Sevens.
Hi, my name is Sebastian, and I’m 13 years old. I play rugby and spend a lot of my free time either training, travelling to training, or being tired from training.
Two years ago, my rugby team in Al Ain had to stop because we didn’t have enough players.
I really didn’t want to give up rugby, so I joined a club in Abu Dhabi. That means travelling about an hour and a half each way, twice a week, which is a lot of car time, but it’s worth it.
Rugby in the UAE is a small community, and after seeing the standard of some young players, several coaches came together to form the Emirates Falcons — a development team made up of the strongest players selected from clubs across the country.
Selection is highly competitive. Players are nominated by their coaches and invited to trials, where numbers are gradually reduced over several stages. After weeks of assessment and training, only 14 players are selected.
I am proud to say that I have been chosen as one of those 14 players.
As part of the Emirates Falcons, I now have the opportunity to travel to the UK to compete at the Rosslyn Park School Sevens, which is the largest school sevens tournament in the world, and also the Caldicot 10s, one of the leading rugby tournaments for prep school players.
These events bring together high-level school teams and offer an incredible chance to play, learn, and experience rugby at an international standard.
It’s an amazing chance to play rugby at a high level, learn from other teams, and experience something completely new.
The total cost of the trip is approximately 10,000 AED (£2,000 / $2,700), which includes flights, accommodation, transport, meals, kit, and insurance.
My parents are already contributing as much as they can. I also have two siblings, so our family’s budget has to stretch a long way.
I’m hoping to raise some money myself to help cover part of the cost and take a bit of pressure off my parents — and also to show that I’m taking responsibility for something that really matters to me.
Any support would mean a lot to me. And if you can’t donate, sharing this would still help.
Thank you for supporting me and my rugby journey.
