Aim

Our project is to build a brand new, purpose built gym for Timperley Amateur Boxing Club with more space and better facilities.

Who we are:

Timperley Amateur Boxing Club uses the power of the sport of boxing, exercise and recreation to engage young people, living in an area of high deprivation, in a range of positive activities that empower them to make positive change. We aim to support young people through our activities, so they can improve their health, reduce social isolation and play a positive role in the wider community. We also promote, train and support young people as volunteers, who help run the club and some of the activities on offer. While our club is open to all young people, we also specifically target young people who are the most vulnerable and at risk in the community.

Timperley Boxing Club is a registered charity. The charity is governed by a board of trustees who are extremely proactive and hands-on at the club. The club then has a club manager/head coach, Mark Davidson, who oversees the day to day running of the organisation and who manages the volunteer team.

Our Community:

We are very community focused and through our consultation with the community around us we know we have their full support. We also have support from our local MP and council as well as from England Boxing. We work with everyone, young people, older people, people with disabilities, people struggling with their mental health - we are very inclusive and the club is open to all.

The impact of Covid-19:

Due to the lockdowns during the Covid-19 pandemic, we obviosuly had to close the gym. This meant we lost a lot of our income and our members suffered too, with both their mental and physical health. The boxing gym is like a second home to a lot of our community and is a sociable place to be.

Boxing was also not included in the Government funding - whereas many other sports were, so our income was again affected. We have been unable to hold our regular boxing shows too. We are looking forward to getting back to how things were before and delivering bigger and better shows.

Our project:

The room that the club currently uses is far too small and not fit for purpose.

This project will create a new extension on the building which will be the home of a purpose built gym and training area for the club. We already have planning permission for the building and have identified and appointed contractors through a tendering process. We have raised a considerable amount already for a small club but need help delivering the final amounts.

|What this means for us:

This project will enable us to expand current activities with a particular emphasis on:

- Personal development sessions for children and young people with special educational needs and behaviour problems.

- Additional crime reduction campaigns and anti knife-crime workshops for vulnerable teenagers.

- Positive activities for young people who have been excluded from school and are at higher risk of becoming involved in serious youth violence.

- Increased opportunities for young people to learn how to box.

We will also be able to run classes for other members of the community, including yoga for all ages.

The work will start on our new building on the 28th February - we are so excited this is finally starting after a delay due to the global Covid-19 pandemic.

All money raised through the crowdfunding process will be spent on the build costs. Boxing and our community are our passion.
