Aim

Join Timelapse in our mission to make innovative new musical theatre and communicate scientific and technological ideas.

You can be part of making stories that are built from music, for the here and now.

Timelapse seeks to revolutionise contemporary musical theatre by ensuring it speaks to the most important ideas and issues of the moment. Stories that feel like they are built for the here and now: informed and communicating contemporary debates and issues around science, technology, and ethics.

We were founded by Adam Lenson and Lia Buddle, with the goal of taking our extensive experience of working in new musical theatre to develop unique, innovative and resonant new work of the highest quality.

For nearly two decades, Adam has been at the forefront of supporting musical theatre artists, working tirelessly to offer opportunities and encouragement to develop new work. His often un-remunerated facilitation and expertise has led to the commissioning and production of multiple successful new musicals.

Timelapse is new, but we have already been supported by; New Diorama Theatre as part of Intervention01 and in co-production : by Brighton Dome & Brighton Festival and Old Diorama Arts Centre as part of Intervention01; by Arts Council England, Jerwood Arts and The Harold Hyam Wingate Foundation as part of Intervention01; by The Lowry for Turing; and by the National Theatre Studio for FLYBY.

Projects in development include:

  • Turing (written by Olivier Award-winner Darren Clark [Benjamin Button] and Rhys Jennings [The Wicker Husband])
  • FLYBY (workshop at National Theatre Studio, by Theo Jamieson)
  • Commissions from a number of exciting new musical theatre writers
  • Our first production PRECIPICE, which investigates modern concerns around antimicrobial resistance, climate change, and overconsumption and is based on both significant research and expert consultation. Premieres at New Diorama Theatre this winter.

This is a hugely exciting time for our Company. But at this pivotal moment we need your support.

Help us:

  • Pay those we work with fairly
  • Commission writers at fair rates to allow them to create artist-led, industry-leading work, which we can then pitch and grow
  • Build education programmes alongside our work to communicate and teach
  • Pay the additional technical costs required to stage and develop musicals
  • Create an archive of our work that incorporates digital versions of our shows and workshops

Musicals cost at least 20% more to produce than plays - and whilst we believe that this cost is worth the extra money, we need support to make it happen. Like any start-up, we need an injection of funding at the beginning of our story.

Thank you so much.

Lia & Adam
