Raising money to help our founder Tigs pay for a barrister and other legal costs after she was charged for protesting for refugee rights.
On the 17th July 2023, the anti-refugee Illegal Migration Bill passed through Westminster. At the same time, the quasi-prison barge Bibby Stockholm arrived in Portland, where it will soon accommodate up to 500 people seeking asylum.
Our founder, Tigs Louis-Puttick, organised a protest to stand against this double attack on refugee rights in the UK. As part of the protest, she stood in the road for 15 minutes with a sign saying 'Refugees Welcome'.
Despite all buses, taxis, blue lights, public work vehicles, and motorbikes/bicycles being allowed through, Tigs was arrested for obstruction of the highway. At no point was there any significant build-up of traffic, nor disruption of public order.
She has been charged with obstruction of the highway - which carries a maximum sentence of up to 6 months in prison. Her first court date is on the 10th August. We are fundraising to help cover the significant costs associated with her legal case, primarily barrister fees.
Please consider donating to show that you stand for refugee rights and protest rights. Solidarity with people worldwide who are facing far worse punishment for protesting or standing in solidarity with migrants.
