Tiffin School - Choir CD and Video Recording 2025!

Why?

Tiffin School has one of the most ambitious choral programmes in the country. The Choirs at Tiffin partake in an extraordinary range of performances. In 2023 and 2024 this included performing operas at both the Royal Opera House and Opera Holland Park, Choral Evensong on Radio 3 (one of very few state schools to do so) and concert performances of Mahler symphonies, Carmina Burana and Britten’s War Requiem at the BBC Proms.

However equal to this is the commitment the school provides to training and enthusing the skill and love of singing amongst its students, allowing them to fulfil their full musical potential at University and in later life.

The process of producing a Tiffin recording is an invaluable experience and education for the students. Most importantly it will provide a memento and snapshot of singing at Tiffin which can be kept for evermore. 

It is perhaps a little known fact to the wider 'choral world' that Tiffin is a State maintained school which produces a training and quality parallel to the very best (and most expensive) private schools on a fraction of the budget many receive. 'Minor details' such as a lack of funding or Government cuts to music and arts subjects should not preclude the school from realising this ambition.

What?

There is nothing more loved by the choirs than the Tiffin Song Book - the choral songs (spanning many centuries) that form the heart of the Tiffin repertoire. The tunes often heard being whistled down the corridors.  The CDs and videos will encompass these classic including favourites (including compositions written for the school) alongside some new gems. The CD will feature the Tiffin Boys’ Choir, Tiffin School Choir, Tiffin Chamber Choir and both the Oratorio Trebles and Tiffin Children’s Chorus will be joining for an afternoon of recording. 

But, it comes with a hefty price tag of well over £20,000. We're nearing that target thanks to seeking external grants, support from the school and a generous donation from the Friends of Tiffin Music (which fundraises tirelessly all year to support initiatives such as this).

However, this Crowdfunder campaign is aiming to reach out to EVERYONE associated with choral music at Tiffin, both past and present, to help push us over the finish line (with some exciting incentives for becoming involved!).  Any funds raised, over the required total, will be used by the Friends of Tiffin Music to continue their support of music within the school.

Where?

The singers (across all four groups exceeding 120 boys and girls) will be travelling to Oxford between the 7th-9th January, staying in a college and recording in Keble College Chapel. The experience and focus of having the choirs away from distraction will facilitate a focus and produce the very best quality.

In an era of most students at Tiffin not even owning a CD player, the recording will be released on both Spotify, Apple Music and as a premium CD and as professionally filmed videos to be released on YouTube. This promises to be a wonderful keepsake for parents, pupils, families, staff, alumni and all those who simply appreciate the sound of exquisite young voices singing together.

When?

With a scheduled release date of November 2025, the CD will also make the perfect Christmas present (particularly for grandparents or other family members who are not always able to attend our regular concerts and performances).
