Introducing Tobe Collective to the UK - to showcase the works by Tobe Japanese potters at the London Design Fair.
Introducing Tobe Collective to the UK

Thank you for your interest in our project TICEP 4 - beyond perception @The London Design Fair.
About me:
My name is Mamiko, I'm an organiser of the TICEP (Tobe International Ceramic Exchange Program) project through which I'm leading an unearthed yet extremely talented group of ceramic artists; Tobe Collective from Tobe, a small town in the southern island of Shikoku in Japan. When we started the project 4 years ago we had hardly ever expected that it'd develop to where we are now; we would like to introduce the Tobe Collective to a UK audience - and it'll be at the prestigious London Design Fair in September.
Our aims:
1) to create a showcase of the Tobe pottery at the London Design Fair and,
2) to further extend our existing bridge between the UK and the Tobe potters for their future exchange programme.
Tobe pottery has not been introduced on a large scale in the UK. This will be the first time ever to showcase them at an art fair in London.
How the funding will be spent:
1) to pay the fair booth - both the fee for the fair and design & build the booth.
2) to pay the core funding of running the project such as admin, marketing etc.
A bit of background history:
Tobe Collective is the brainchild of the TICEP project which I started working with in 2019. It is an exchange program between UK based potters and Tobe potters.
The Tobe Collective members made up of 6 completely different potters joined the project with their curious minds to learn from their counter parts on the other side of the world, and I am absolutely honoured to present them and their works at the fair. Right now, my feelings are a mixed bag in the best possible way; thrilled, challenged and sure enough nervous as the fair will be the first major art fair for the Tobe potters.
“I’m very excited to help showcase them to UK and international audiences at our Fair!”- Rosie Henderson, the curator at the London Design Fair
