We're still collecting donations

On the 21st August 2020 we'd raised £750 with 14 supporters in 38 days. But as every pound matters, we're continuing to collect donations from supporters.

Exeter Quay is a fantastic area for locals and visitors. With great pubs, restaurants a fascinating history and range of events it is an ideal place to walk, cycle or have something to eat and drink.

Tragically each year in the UK hundreds of people drown and thousands suffer injuries some life changing through near drowning experiences. Startlingly almost half of those who drown have no intention of entering the water, they were just people out walking, cycling or perhaps out for a meal and a drink. Sadly Exeter Quay is no exception and there have been a number of drowning and near drownings in the area.

The charity SAFE South West, Exeter City Council, Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service (DSFRS) are working together to help reduce drownings  at the Quay. DSFRS have provided training and throw lines for some traders on the Quay and this training will be offered again once lockdown is fully lifted. This means that at some times of the day and evening  someone may be able to help a person in trouble in the water by throwing them a rescue line. However after closing time these throwlines are not available and the risk of drowning increases. SAFE South West is now Crowdfunding to install a more permanent rescue facility by installing six static throwline boards (some with telescopic rescue poles) which can be used by  the general public. If you make a donation every penny will go towards the cost of the boards and rescue poles and you will help to save lives.
