Aim

We're hitting the road again, with Earl mkII. We're purchasing and converting a horse trailer to take our coffee & Ice cream further afield

Our Story

We are The Thirstea Co, founded in 2013 we’ve been providing the great people of Cornwall with Teas, coffees and Ice Creams. We started life in a vintage Citroen H van named “Earl” trading at public events, weddings, parties and shows to name but a few.

In July 2014 we started popping up at The National Trust’s Porth farm, above Towan beach on the Roseland peninsula, and went full time there at Easter in 2015. We had 6 great years in the van, building our business, learning, improving and growing, but 2020 was the year it all changed.

No, I don’t mean the C word which has been floating about this last year, I mean we graduated from the van in to our current premises at Porth Farm, a cafe, a tea room, with a roof, and a proper kitchen. It was nirvana to us, having spent the previous seasons cooking at home, and battling the rains!

We love our cafe, we love the support we’ve had during this horrendous year, and we love having a proper home for the business. However, behind all this was a yearning, a yearning for the open road, to spread the good word of coffee and ice cream, to spread our wings.

This didn’t go away, this feeling that there was more to be done, so we got talking to our landlords once more, and we agreed there was a space for us elsewhere, working alongside the cafe but taking our services to another post code!

Our spot: Carne Beach on the Roseland Peninsula, a beautiful beach, wide and sandy, the Cornish coast personified, it’s a beach filled with memories for Mr Thirstea, having grown up locally,  and just the perfect pitch to try our hand at outdoor catering once more!

This is where you guys come in.

We want to invite our community to be partners in our new venture, we want to be able to give something back to those who have supported us throughout our journey, and those who will support us in the future.

What we’ll do

With your help we’ll purchase, lovingly restore and convert a Rice horse trailer. We chose these because they are built in England, they are a really good size and shape for our needs, you’ll often see them being used for catering applications for this very reason.

We'll fill it with

  • Counters
  • Electrics
  • Plumbing
  • Water Tanks
  • A La Marzocco commercial coffee machine, as used at the Cafe to provide customers with great coffee.
  • Callestick Farm Ice Cream freezer, we'll be scooping ice creams, nothing beats a scoop of ice cream in a cone on the beach.
  • We will also need to acquire a large, reliable generator to power our coffee magic at Carne as there is no power there.

If we meet our target, which is as it is in to boost our own investment in the project, we’re hoping to up and running by the Easter holidays (such as they’ll be this year!)

We’ll be recruiting local staff to help us out both in the trailer and at the Cafe, in our first year along we’ve created 3 full time equivalent jobs. We exclusively use local suppliers providing us with the best local produce, whilst we make all our sweet treats in house.

We’re  a Surfers against sewage Plastic Free champion company, using biodegradable packaging and reducing our waste overall.

So take a look at the rewards, see what you might like, there is something there for all budgets, and thank you. Thank you for supporting us in our exciting new venture.
