Aim
Bringing passion to the high street: we’re fundraising to open the Midlands’ first romance bookstore with events, book clubs & community.
The woman behind The Spicy Librarian is a lifelong bookworm and unapologetic lover of romance in all its forms. On her travels, she’s discovered the magic of romance-only bookstores, mainly in the US — and now, she wants to bring that wonder to the Midlands, right here in the UK.
This won’t just be a shop. It will be a community. A female-centric, joy-filled space where passion, love, and stories are celebrated without apology.

At a time when so many of our high streets are falling quiet, we want to create a vibrant hub that brings people back together. A space where romance readers feel seen, celebrated, and completely at home as right now, there’s nowhere that offers a space for this community.

- The rise of Romantasy and romance is powered in part by BookTok and social media: romantasy drove a 41.3% increase in Sci-Fi & Fantasy sales value from 2023 to 2024. The Guardian
- Gen Z has turned to binge-reading to escape their screens, and it's given the likes of established book stores such as Waterstones a huge sales boost. The bookseller reported a 5% revenue rise, fuelled by a surge in younger readers thanks to the rise of Booktok. A bookstore is where they want to be as they turn their backs on pubs and clubs.
Why are we fundraising?
We’ve found the perfect venue in the Midlands — a charming building with history and character, ready to be transformed into the UK’s first dedicated romantasy and romance bookstore. But like many old spaces, it needs love (and a new roof!) before it can truly shine. Your support will help us restore this building, fill it with shelves of stories, and create a welcoming, inclusive community hub where everyone feels at home. This isn’t just about bricks and mortar — it’s about building a safe, vibrant space that celebrates love in all its forms and brings people back to the high street.
