Aim

Offer support and recovery programmes to those suffering from trauma & anxiety-related disorders such as phobias, panic, PTSD, OCD etc.

Common mental health disorders, such as depression, generalised anxiety disorder, panic disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder and social anxiety disorder affect up to 15% of the population at any one time.  According to the UK government, in 2020/21 stress, depression or anxiety accounted for 50% of all work-related ill health cases.

Thankfully, mental health awareness is increasing on a daily basis and the government has made a commitment to increase resources to improve services in the future. However, health services in the UK continue to be overstretched and have long waiting times, which is shocking as over 75% of anxiety disorder sufferers do not seek professional help of any kind!

Many of those that do reach out are unable to find tailor-made support or are being told that they can only manage their symptoms and not overcome them completely.

Trauma Research UK is dedicated to giving hope to those who have never had hope, and to restoring hope to those who have had it taken away.

We believe all Mental Health issues, no matter how long someone has been struggling, can be successfully overcome. Our one-to-one recovery programmes are facilitated by trained mentors who are equipped with a wealth of skills and experience and have a strong commitment to the organisation.  Each and every one of them has experienced, (and more importantly), overcome mental health issues themselves which makes their dedicated compassion invaluable.

We strive to harness an individual’s strengths and provide them with the tools and methods to improve their mental wellness. To do this, we first help them identify where any life-changing challenges, in particular, their traumas began. No one is born with out-of-context anxiety so locating the trigger(s) and changing one’s perspective is the key. By using cognitive-behavioural therapy principles we help participants develop an understanding of the relationship between thoughts, feelings, actions, and physiology.

“I was very very anxious about getting on a plane. Through this programme, not only did I get on the plane, but I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The fact I had homework each week and had to give feedback made me accountable. It was a very structured process.”   (Pam - A recovery programme participant)

"My mentor is truly amazing!! She sees things so differently and helped me understand where my trauma came from. She puts me at ease and I always come off the call feeling more positive about things. Thank you so much! I am going to buy my husband a block of sessions now to help with his timeline as a Christmas present as I really want him to experience the amazing support I have had." (Emma - A recovery Programme participant)

"Positive strategies and practices were the most beneficial part of the programme. As were building self-confidence and being listened to. My mentor was so positive and kind, she has really been a joy to talk to each week. Thank you.” (Vicky - A recovery programme participant).

Trauma Research UK is ambitious to continue improving and expanding its educational and therapeutic recovery programmes.  Creating more free resources that increase understanding of anxiety disorders, promote wellness and encourage life maintenance skills are priorities.

We understand from researched data that there are many more people out there that could benefit from our services. This is why we are driven and motivated to raise the money needed to continue our work of giving lives back to those who have lost hope. With your help, we can continue to make this a reality.

There is always hope.
