British Culture Archive is a non-profit resource that relies on funding to maintain and continue our work documenting everyday life, society and culture in the UK.
This Crowdfunder campaign has been a lifeline, enabling us to maintain and exhibit the archive across the UK - making powerful documentary photography accessible to people from all walks of life. Any support we receive will help us to secure our long term goal establishing 'The People's Archive Gallery' a permanent free exhibition space and community hub in the North West.
The People's Archive Gallery will be an accessible and inclusive space where we can showcase our archive documenting everyday life, working class society and culture in the UK.
As well as a permanent home for our archive we will showcase guest exhibitions from our featured photographers and hold community based events and workshops for schools and community groups in the region.

ABOUT US.
Founded in 2017, the British Culture Archive is a non-profit resource set up to document, highlight and preserve the changes within British society and culture through documentary photography.
Our mission is to educate, inspire and engage people with photography through our online galleries, community workshops and exhibitions.

British Culture Archive is proud to work alongside a number of respected photographers and give a significant platform to photographers whose work has yet to be seen by a wider audience.
Our ongoing project, The People’s Archive, documents and preserves the hundreds of images submitted to us by the public.
Our online galleries include previously unseen images ranging from the 1960s Mod Scene to Northern Soul and Punk, Thatcher’s Britain, Social Housing, Industrial decline, Regeneration, Acid House, Protests and more.
BCA was started from the ground up through a genuine passion for photography and a desire to preserve and document working-class culture and everyday life in 20th-century Britain. It has grown into an extensive archive and platform over the years, helping to showcase and engage British photography with new audiences and younger generations worldwide.
WHY WE ARE CROWDFUNDING

Since 2017, we have collected and preserved images submitted to our archive. The photos are an invaluable resource and essential record highlighting real life as it was for many of us growing up before smartphones and social media.

Gallery Space
As a non-profit resource, we rely on occasional funding and sponsorship to maintain our resources and exhibit our archive across towns and cities in the UK. All funding raised through this crowdfunder will go directly towards our permanent gallery space, which we hope to secure in 2024.
The exhibition space will give us a permanent home to showcase the archive alongside events, workshops and world-class documentary photography exhibitions.
