Aim

We're The Mood Booster, a community finding joy in the everyday. Your support funds workshops, events, research & more to keep us thriving.

Help us grow The Mood Booster, The Home of Wellbeing and Joy.

What is The Mood Booster?

A community organisation built to help people feel more connected and to find joy in their everyday through our run club, podcast, workshops, evidence-based wellbeing tools, events and more. Founded by Dr Marcus Bull and Charlie Allnutt.

Why are we raising funds?

To help us keep this community running and make it accessible to more people. Right now, we fund everything ourselves alongside our full-time jobs.

Your support will help fund (not an exhaustive list):

•  🏃 Community runs and events that bring people together

•  🧠 Wellbeing workshops and expert speakers

•  🤝 Accessibility support, including interpreters and inclusive event design

•  🔊 Equipment and resources to help us deliver better experiences

•  🔬 Research that keeps our approach grounded in evidence

Our goal:

To build a welcoming space where everyone, regardless of background, ability, fitness level or circumstance, can feel safe, seen and supported. We want to help people understand themselves better, and understand their neighbour better too, so they can be empowered to focus on the small wins that build a better everyday.

Thank you for helping us keep this community alive and growing.

Here's our full story, from why we started this to how we want to keep going.

We're Dr Marcus Bull and Charlie Allnutt, and this is The Mood Booster, your home of wellbeing and joy.

In being here, in supporting this cause, you are helping us build a home where people can find a community, to feel safe, feel seen, and feel empowered to understand themselves better, and be a little bit better every day.

Marcus: This all started with losing my dad to cancer. In the middle of that grief, I found running. It gave me somewhere to put everything I was feeling, and slowly, people to share it with. I watched what happens when human beings move together, show up for each other week after week, and quietly look out for one another. I saw how transformative that simple act of coming together can be. So I started the Monday Mood Booster run club, just a small group meeting once a week in London, built on the idea that joy is found in the everyday.

At the same time, I was finishing my PhD in psychology, and I kept seeing the same gap. So much brilliant research on wellbeing, connection and mental health was sitting in journals, never reaching the communities who actually needed it. I wanted to bridge that gap by giving people tools to understand themselves better, understand each other better, and build the kind of community where looking after ourselves and looking after one another are the same thing.

Charlie: I joined that run club as a member during a difficult time in my life. Like a lot of people, I came for the running and got hooked on something bigger, the community, the conversations, the sense of belonging. After many conversations with Dr Marcus, we decided this community needed to be something so much bigger than just a run club. I wanted our conversations, our connections to reach and help other people, just as much as they were helping me. So, we co-founded The Mood Booster, the wider community which now also encompasses the run club. Between us this is very much a labour of love. Every event we run, every episode we record, every person we look after in that community happens in the hours outside our full time jobs.

Together: That's the honest picture. We're two people, no marketing budget, running this around our full time jobs. We believe deeply that everyone deserves a place where they feel safe, understood and supported being their most authentic self. This is the home of wellbeing and joy.

Also, importantly, inclusivity is one of the reasons we exist. We'd seen too many spaces across London where it sat as an afterthought, a line in a mission statement rather than something built into the foundations of the community. We wanted The Mood Booster to be a place where people of all abilities, backgrounds, livelihoods, fitness levels and sexualities genuinely share the same space. We treat that as an ongoing practice rather than a box we tick once. We keep reflecting on it and working with people who don't share our own demographics, so we stay as representative and welcoming as we can be.

Right now, the cost of running this community comes directly out of both our own pockets. Food for our events and talks. Equipment like a backpack speaker for outdoor sessions, which alone would cost around £600 and would let us bring music and clear speaker audio to runs and events without relying on borrowed kit. Booking interpreters so our events are genuinely accessible. Paying speakers who give their time and expertise to run club and our talks. Hiring the equipment that makes workshops possible in the first place. We're also continually funding our own primary academic research, keeping our understanding of this space genuinely state of the art and grounded in evidence, so what we build and how we practice is led by real findings in an area that badly needs them.

This is what your support goes towards, the ongoing essential work of keeping this community alive and growing. Workshops that help people understand themselves better. Run events that bring people together. Speakers who share knowledge we couldn't otherwise afford. Interpreters and equipment that make sure no one is left out.

We also want to be completely transparent about where the money goes. From this campaign onwards, we're introducing a "What You've Funded" section in our 3 Small Wins newsletter, published weekly, showing exactly what your support has paid for that month.

We believe we are all continually learning and improving, and that by understanding ourselves better, the people around us, and what genuinely brings us joy, we improve our everyday, together, with no fixed end point. The Mood Booster is our attempt to build a home for that. With your help, we can keep that home open, keep it growing, and keep it exactly what it's always been meant to be, a place where everyone is welcome.
