We are raising money to buy a new fishing vessel, as ours was wrecked in a storm just over a week ago
We are a small family run business on the Isle of Muck, catching and selling shellfish to tourists, locals and local businesses. After a few years of selling live shellfish we realised there was a big market for pre cooked and ready to eat shellfish. So after a lot of time, money and effort and help from family and friends we are nearly at a place to be opening our shellfish kitchen to be able to offer cooked, prepared, and packed shellfish to ship to our customers at home.
We never thought we would be in this position as to be writing this, but after the last storm we lost our beloved fishing boat that we have had for over 15years. So much hard work, sweat and tears went into the vessel to make it safer for Sandy to fish by himself. It is a dangerous job working at sea and to do it on his own is even harder.
We are raising funds to buy a new boat as our kitchen is nearing completion and has used up all our funds, we have a kitchen but no supply of shellfish.
Along with a newer vessel we will be needing extra quota on our fishing licence to be able to keep fishing, also needing to make sure we have all the safety gear required to be able to keep on fishing safely. which includes, Flares, Lifejackets, VHF radio, Fire extinguishers, and more.
After all of the work we recently put into Quiet Waters we are in a position where we need the newer vessel to already be able to pass the new MCA regulations, without months of work and adjustments.
Then we will need to kit the vessel out with the GPS, Plotter, AIS system, Fish finder, and more.
All of which is not cheap.
Our future business plans involve being able to employ local people, creating work opportunities within our fragile community,
So we have decided to ask the public for help to continue our progress in our business.
