Aim
Help us support hundreds more children in Bristol by creating a dedicated children's therapy room!
We help sexually abused children to heal and recover from their experiences. With a long waiting list for therapy, one of the main reasons we can’t support more children is our facilities are shared between adults and children. We need your support to create a dedicated children’s therapy room that will provide the facilities for us to help 40% more children each year.
Who are we
The Green House is a Bristol-based charity that uses art and drama therapy to help children and young people affected by sexual abuse. We give children a safe space to express their hurt and overcome their trauma so that they can go on to live healthy, fulfilling lives.
Why we are crowdfunding now
The NSPCC estimates 1 in 20 children are sexually abused. The pain, trauma and shame of these experiences can affect children long into adulthood. But we know that therapy helps them heal and enables them to live a life beyond their abuse.
We currently support 100 children and young people each year but demand for our service is overwhelming and we have outgrown our small office in St Werburghs. In 2018 we are planning to move to larger premises at St Agnes Lodge in St Pauls. It will give us the space we need but the building needs work to transform it into the sort of place where traumatised children feel comfortable opening up.
We need your support to create a dedicated children’s therapy room. This is a room with a legacy, which will transform children’s lives for many years to come. The new room will give us the facilities to work with children of all ages and enable The Green House to help 40% more children each year.
Where your money will go
We need £10,000 to renovate and equip the new children’s therapy room.
Every penny of our £5,000 crowdfunder target will go towards it's refurbishment costs. Things like a new floor, improved heating, redecoration, play equipment, and arts materials.
Your donation will also be matched pound for pound by Comic Relief, meaning we will hopefully be able cover the full costs of the room!
