Help Us Grow a Year of Community, Wellbeing & Fresh Organic Food at The Garden Gang Community Garden

Together, we can fund one year of a dedicated Community Garden Manager & Coordinator AND build our new Garden-to-Table outdoor kitchen.

Goal: £20,000

A Small Organic Garden Making a Big Community Difference

The Garden Gang at the Macs Farm began with nothing more than goodwill, muddy boots, and the determination of local volunteers who believed something beautiful could grow here.

Today, we’re proud to say:

🌿 The entire garden is organic.

🌍 We use no-dig growing methods.

♻️ We recycle every plant and scrap back into our own compost system.

💚 We run a closed-loop approach — what we grow, we return to the soil.

This is gardening done the right way:

gentle on the land, nourishing for people, and sustainable for our future.

But to keep this going — and to expand our impact — we now need dedicated, stable, funded hours for a coordinator and gardener, plus a simple but vital outdoor kitchen to bring people together around fresh food, learning, and community.

Why This Garden Matters More Than Ever

The Garden Gang’s Community Garden is more than beds and pathways.

It is a living, breathing ecosystem where nature, learning, wellbeing and community come together.

People come here to:

✨ Ease anxiety, loneliness, stress and low mood

✨ Socialise, laugh, and make new friends

✨ Learn sustainable food growing

✨ Volunteer and build confidence

✨ Take part in meaningful activity

✨ Connect with the natural world

✨ Find a calm, safe space at difficult moments in life

We support social prescribing, families, volunteers, vulnerable individuals, local young people, and anyone who simply needs time outside.

And every leaf, every seedling, every compost heap is part of a bigger picture:

a healthier community and a healthier planet.

Our Principles: How We Grow and Why It Matters

100% Organic Growing

We grow without chemicals, pesticides or synthetic fertilisers.

Everything we produce is clean, healthy, and safe for the community.

No-Dig Gardening

Following the principles of regenerative horticulture, we protect the soil by disturbing it as little as possible.

No-dig growing provides:

  • Healthier soil
  • Better biodiversity
  • Higher long-term yields
  • Less watering
  • Fewer weeds
  • A more accessible way for beginners and older volunteers to join in

Closed-Loop Composting

All our plant waste, crop scraps, leaves, and prunings go straight back into turning our own compost.

We produce our own fertiliser, our own mulch, and our own soil-building materials.

This saves money, reduces waste, and makes the garden economically sustainable.

Eco-Friendly, Circular, Responsible

We build things from reclaimed materials, reuse what we can, collect rainwater, minimise plastic use, and design everything with long-term sustainability in mind.

This garden teaches people how to grow food ethically and responsibly — and how to take these lessons home.

What Your Donation Will Help Us Achieve

Your support funds two essential pillars of our future:

1. A Community Garden Manager & Project Coordinator (18 hours/week for 12 months)

This role makes everything possible.

It allows us to:

✔ Care for the organic beds and no-dig growing systems

✔ Expand our composting and sustainability work

✔ Support volunteers of all ages and abilities

    ✔ Deliver social prescribing sessions

✔ Maintain the garden safely and professionally

✔ Grow more produce for community meals

✔ Offer accessible workshops and garden tours

✔ Design new areas like our orchard and bug village

✔ Build a research-backed, eco-friendly food growing hub for the community

Without this funded role, we simply cannot meet the demand from volunteers, families, and wellbeing referrals.  This is the heart of the project.

2. A Garden-to-Table Outdoor Community Kitchen

Our next big step is an outdoor kitchen designed for education, inclusion, and sustainable food skills.

Not a building — but the core elements we need:

  • Stainless steel worktops for hygiene and safety
  • Sheltered outdoor prep area
  • Basic fridge/cool storage
  • Safe, clean food storage
  • Outdoor handwashing
  • Utensils, pans, equipment
  • Training in essential food hygiene

Why this matters:

We can grow food… but without a safe place to prepare and cook it, we can’t complete the circle.

This kitchen will enable:

  • Garden-to-table cooking classes
  • Family cook-and-grow sessions
  • Community feasts & open days
  • School visits & hands-on learning
  • Herb tasting and seasonal workshops
  • Healthy eating sessions
  • Social prescribing cook-ups
  • Fresh meals for volunteers and vulnerable participants

Future Eco Projects Your Support Will Make Possible

Your donation also helps us develop:

  • A community orchard with apples, pears, plums
  • A bug village to boost biodiversity
  • The Grow Wild area (wildflowers, pollinator zones, seed harvesting)
  • A compost education corner teaching zero-waste growing
  • Sensory gardens
  • Accessible growing beds
  • Rainwater harvesting improvements
  • A children’s nature trail

Every pound is an investment in long-term sustainability.

A Garden That Brings People Together

People don’t just come here to garden.

They come to talk, connect, heal, laugh, learn, share food, and feel part of something meaningful.

From retired volunteers to young people, from families to individuals facing challenges —

the garden gives everyone a place to belong.

This is community at its best:

kindness, shared purpose, and nature pulling people together.
