Aim

Help Theatre 118 reopen in Glasgow: a home for grassroots theatre, comedy and poetry, with affordable tickets and space to experiment.

Help bring Theatre 118 back 🎭

Theatre 118 has a new home. With your help, we can get the doors open!

We're raising £5,000 to get our new 100-seat theatre at 24 Payne Street in Port Dundas (North Glasgow) ready for artists and audiences. Your donation will help pay for redecoration, essential building improvements and the work needed to make the space ready to use as a theatre.

What is Theatre 118?

We're a theatre run by theatre makers. We give artists space to try out new ideas, experiment and put their work in front of an audience. And we give audiences somewhere to discover Scotland's most exciting new theatre, comedy, poetry and performance at a price they can afford.

In our previous space on Osborne Street, we supported more than 400 individual artists, provided affordable rehearsal space to 20 theatre companies and welcomed more than 1,500 audience members. We staged 14 original in-house productions, hosted six touring productions and given artists a place to share work in progress through our scratch nights, all within nine months!

"Theatre 118 has given me a really amazing supportive community. I've met so many inspiring people."-- Francesca Flynn, artist, sculptor and actor

A new home for Glasgow's fringe theatre community 🏠

When our previous venue at 118 Osborne Street closed, we lost a space that hundreds of artists had made their home.

Now we've secured a ten-year lease at a building on Payne Street, Port Dundas. It gives us somewhere to put down roots and create a long-term home for independent theatre makers in Glasgow.

We want artists to feel they can walk in with an idea and find people who will help them get it on its feet. That matters especially when you don't have the money to hire a venue, or lack institutional connections. We know first hand how many talented writers, performers and makers there are in Glasgow who need a space like ours.

Our new home will bring back opportunities to develop and stage work, alongside affordable rehearsal space and practical support. For audiences, it means a lively programme of new writing, plays, comedy, poetry and unexpected performances, with Pay What You Can tickets from £3.

"The resurrection of grassroots Scottish theatre might just start here. Hallelujah to that"-- Neil Cooper, The Herald

What your donation will pay for 🛠️

Our £5,000 target will help us get the building ready to use:

  • Redecoration and preparing the space: making the venue welcoming for artists and audiences.
  • Building improvements: making practical improvements to the building for its new life as a performance venue, and organising insurances and consents.
  • Getting the theatre ready to use: preparing the spaces where artists will rehearse and perform, and where audiences will come together to see their work.

We're a volunteer-led team, and we're putting our own time and work into reopening. Your support will help us meet the costs we can't cover through that work alone.

"Having space for working-class people and for people who don’t have the money to go to theatre school or put on big plays in these big grand venues is really crucial."-- Alan Jay, comedian

Help us get the doors open ❤️

Your donation will help give hundreds of grassroots theatre makers, actors, comedians and poets somewhere to get their work staged, and give Glasgow audiences more opportunities to see it!

Please give what you can. If donating isn't possible, sharing this page with a friend, a theatre company or someone who loves live performance will help us reach more people.

We'd love you to be part of bringing 118 back. Thank you!
