We're still collecting donations
On the 24th October 2022 we'd raised £1,315 with 23 supporters in 56 days. But as every pound matters, we're continuing to collect donations from supporters.
The Annex will be a new shopping experience in Shetland, and will also provide an affordable retail space for other small businesses.

The money will be used to convert the garage into a retail space. It will include a changing room for trying on clothes, a storage cupboard for stock etc. A chair for visitors to use, a cupboard for sellers to rent spaces in where they can leave orders for customers to collect, display units for other sellers to rent, shelving, rail. It will also include a wheelchair accessible ramp and door. Any extra money raised will go towards the decoration in the garage, advertising such as a sign and improving the parking area.
The Annex will be a new shopping experience in Shetland. Funding will be used to convert a garage into a retail space which will follow the cake fridge principle that is common within Shetland. Customers will be able to browse a selection of tie dye clothing, shoes and accessories from Kaleidoscope Designs - Shetland, as well as other small businesses, with the option to ring for assistance. Space will be rented out to these businesses for a small fee and there will also be an option to rent a space in the Collection Cubby, where orders can be left for customers to collect at their convenience. The Annex will be located in Gulberwick, a short distance from Lerwick and there is parking for at least 3 cars. It will be run by me, Robyn Jones, of Kaleidoscope Designs - Shetland.
Kaleidoscope Designs – Shetland was founded in September 2021 in Gulberwick, Shetland, which is just outside the modern Capital, Lerwick.
We specialise in tie dye clothing, shoes and accessories, all design and dyed by hand right here in Shetland. The main reason Kaleidoscope Designs was started was to allow for me to be able to work from home in order to manage my chronic illnesses and to also care for my husband Aled, who unfortunately suffers from long COVID. It also allows me to have a creative outlet, and due to the chaotic and unknown nature of tie dye, it is a very exciting process!
We offer a variety of different items for both adults and children, in a variety of different sizes ranging from new born right up to 6XL, so there is definitely something for everyone! Each item is absolutely unique – no two are the same.
After a year of trading, I know that the next step is to have a retail space, however, like a lot of other small businesses in Shetland and the UK, it is incredibly difficult to afford a retail space and also it can be difficult to be stocked in other outlets. I want to open The Annex to provide not only myself with a retail space, but also to provide an affordable selling option for other businesses in Shetland that have the same struggles. It also provides a relaxed shopping experience for the customer.
