Help The Yarn Cake move to bigger, better premises! We're hoping to rebrand, move and restock the shop and only have a month to do it in!

Who We Are

My name is Antje Karl, and I own The Yarn Cake in Glasgow, serving the fibre crafters of Glasgow and beyond with yarn, coffees, teas AND cake for 12 1/2 years now! We are in a small shop unit in the West End and take great pride in both championing British yarns and the amazing community we've built over the years. We've won the "Best Independent Yarn Shop - Scotland" category of the British Knitting and Crochet Awards three times, we run a popular knit night, we regularly host classes and workshops and we run our annual yarn festival, The Glasgow School of Yarn. It's an absolutely brilliant wee shop and you should definitely come and visit some time (if you haven't already)!

Why We Need Your Help

Our lease here on Queen Margaret Drive is up for renewal in early May and unfortunately the landlord has, at short notice, presented us with renewal terms that are completely unacceptable. So we have to move! It's been a massive shock and disappointment, but we've been saying we need a bigger shop for years now so we've decided to see it as an opportunity and make the best of it! We found a fantastic new space really quickly and are in the process of agreeing a lease - we'll let you know where as soon as we can! Rest assured, we're staying in the West End....plus, we'll have more space, better transport links and free parking. It's going to be awesome!

What We'll Do With Your Money

The reason we need funding is that moving is expensive. We were expecting legal fees and we've always got a wee emergency nest egg, but we need to pay for a hefty deposit, moving costs, some amount of refurbishment, new furniture, more stock, and signage. We're also taking the opportunity for a long overdue rebrand, since we're going to have to change our website, flyers, loyalty cards, etc anyway. And, because everything has moved so quickly, we don't have much time to raise funds.

We've put together some really fun rewards for you - or you can "just" make a donation, which obviously makes the money go a bit further at our end.

We're really excited about what this means for our wee crafting community going forward - we were just starting to find our feet again with events after the pandemic and this will give us a much better space to host.  The new place will have more space for stock, loads of light, brilliant transport links and lots of free parking just outside. Plus, it's in a lovely area with tons of wee indy shops to peruse!

So, to sum up....

...we can't continue trading on Queen Margaret Drive, but with your support we can reopen a new, bigger, better The Yarn Cake nearby. We've always been blown away by how wonderful and supportive our customers are and I don't for a second doubt that we won't manage this move with your help.

Thanks for reading,

Antje and Team TYC xx
