Who We Are & What We Are Doing.

About Us.

The Mann Family School of Kung Fu is a non for profit community organisation, founded by John Mann in 2008, and is now run by his son Sean Mann. We are already embedded in this community since 2014, and we have been investing in the skills, discipline and confidence of individuals from across our local community since then, working to preserve the unique skill and direct lineage of traditional Wing Chun Kung Fu our school has to offer, the only school like it full time in Lincolnshire and the longest established in our areas.

My own kids Amelia, Henry and Theodore are the third generation of our own family lineage to now practice and hopefully one day also pass on this amazing skill as well.

In 2021 we won best martial arts school of the year award for 2020/2021 and have just found out we have won again for the awards been presented in 2022.

Early 2021 the school also published its first book on Wing Chun called Ip Man Wing Chun Kung Fu, Understanding Si Lim Tao with plans for more publications to help spread this unique system going forward as well.

Before COVID19 as well as running the classes in different areas across Lincolnshire and the Humber we also had access to seminars, residential courses and even China training trips, but as the pandemic has put that side of operations on hold we have the perfect opportunity to focus on our full time community centres.

Going forward we aim to create multiple community centres in different locations so we can work directly with the community as well as provide a space for other community organisations to use as well, with this location in Grimsby been the first one of its type.

What We Are Trying To Achieve With This Project.

We are passionate about helping to develop individuals within our local community from a variety of backgrounds, so they can personally grow and become more successful as a result. We want to build and expand upon this so we can continue to help raise money for other local charities and community projects that might not otherwise get any help from other places, as well as developing our students and local community directly from teaching the skills we have to offer as a traditional Kung Fu school.

To do this our ambition is to create a brand new community centre, providing a safe and secure space for a wide range of classes to be offered to the residents of Old Clee and the East Marsh, now we have the building but need help fixing it up so we can open it to the public.

What Will We Spend The Money On?

After sharing our detailed vision with the National Lottery board, they decided to support us with a grant. The money we are hoping to raise with this crowd fund will be used to help cover the shortfall we have to cover for the refurbishment of the premises, and to help finish kitting the studio out with much needed training equipment and safety gear as well as some security features that will help make it a safe environment for people of all ages to come and enjoy training.

It is actually bigger than the pictures look with 700sqt of floor space, there is a storage room and kitchen/toilet area as well.

Time Matters!

The sooner this community centre is open to the public the sooner we can increase the work we are doing in helping developing peoples mental and physical health in our local community and beyond, at that point the studio will also be available to use by other local health and wellbeing organisations to, it’s that simple.

The community centre is set to open in Feb 2022 so we don't have much time to raise the money needed and get the work done before the big day.

School Mission Statement & Constitution.

Our 5 main Goals to achieve and maintain at the Mann Family School of Kung Fu are as below -

1, To preserve, develop and pass on our family’s lineage of a 400 year old traditional Chinese Shaolin Kung Fu skill, to develop the people of the local community and have a direct positive impact for now and for the future.

2, To preserve our personal family lineage and connections to this organisation going forward in each generation, with at least one direct Mann family member involved at all times as a employed instructor, chairperson or board member overseeing the schools future development.

3, To serve the people of Yorkshire, North & North East Lincolnshire by providing a traditional, physical and mental training and development method, that has been used and passed on for 400 years, to support the mental health and wellbeing of children, young people, adults, families and couples within North, North East Lincolnshire and Yorkshire.

4, To provide a place and service that can have a positive effect on people that might be struggling in life for a number of reasons including but not limited to -

  • People that have been affected in an abusive relationship.

  • People that have been affected by bullying, sexual abuse or lack of self-confidence or motivation.

  • People that are struggling to develop mentally or might have a physical or mental addiction they want to overcome.

  • People with physical or mental health conditions that can benefit from the physical and mental self-development and training methods we provide.

  • People who wish to develop their mind, body and spirit for general development purposes or to develop their family and family members.

  • People who wish to learn a traditional skill for self-defence.

5, Cultural and historical preservation of Wing Chun Kuen.

Whilst it is not mandatory, to show accountability we have an account trustee who is independent from our school that monitors activity, co-signs and manages the financial side of the school making sure it meets its obligations set out in this mission statement.  Any employees are and must be local and can only be paid what is deemed a fair wage for the works completed. Any profits are put back into developing the school or funding local charities or events for the local community to benefit from or to pay for student training cost for people that live locally and otherwise would not be able to afford to attend. These conditions makes sure the school remains a community benefiting project run for, and by the community it serves from now and in to the future.

Alongside this we also have a board that is made up from the students that currently train in our school and is updated annually, the student board is responsible for identifying community projects or charity’s we can potentially help, deciding what charity’s we fundraise for and donate to as well as project/event development and management in any area the school board feels it can help or make a difference with for our students or local community, insuring at all times the school is been run and maintained by the students for the students.

We hope this statement has helped you to understand our situation as a not for profit organisation. Ultimately we want to help as many people in our community as possible.
