The Wildlife Trust for Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Northamptonshire

The Wildlife Trust BCN works to make our three counties wilder. We manage over 100 nature reserves, monitor habitats and species, assist others in land management for wildlife, and inspire people to love and protect nature locally. By conserving and enhancing wildlife habitats and biodiversity throughout Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, and Northamptonshire, together we can improve everyone’s enjoyment and understanding of nature.

The Wildlife Trust BCN's mission is to create a wilder future by protecting and restoring wildlife and wild places across Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire & Northamptonshire, for the benefit of both wildlife and people.

Our nature reserves require extensive management in order to continue being suitable habitats for a wide range of wildlife. They include some of Britain's rarest habitats, such as ancient woodlands, wild fen, heathland, wetland and wildflower meadows with each reserve having its own unique character and each requiring a different type of work.

It is no secret that nature is in trouble. Wildlife is disappearing at an alarming rate - some are calling it the next mass extinction - and the threat of climate catastrophe is a constant worry. We are living in a time of emergency.

But there is still hope - we can tackle both of these critical issues, but we must scale up our efforts and act now.

Together, with the movement of Wildlife Trusts, we want at least 30% of our land and sea to be connected and protected for nature’s recovery by 2030. Making more space for nature to become abundant once again will give our struggling wildlife the chance to recover and will also restore beautiful wild places - places that store carbon and help to tackle the climate crisis.

We must fight to conserve our remaining wildlife and seize every opportunity to enable nature to recover. We must develop nature-based solutions to tackle the enormous global challenges we face. The case for nature conservation is clear. We need to be robust, flexible and ambitious to address it. The state of the environment demands it; human health and wellbeing demands it; and the future deserves it. With your help, we can bring wildlife back.
