Welcome, friend, to The Wandering Dragon.
A place for people to play games and create community.
I'm Katherine, founder and lover of board games, coffee, and community. I grew up in Rushcliffe, South Nottinghamshire and have lived here for most of my life. Whilst Nottingham city has a wonderful selection of board game businesses, I have often longed for one more local to me. With my friends now living all over the country it's difficult to meet up for game nights, and I would love to have a place where I can meet people and try out a new game or two. Thus, I have decided to take the plunge and bring The Wandering Dragon into the world!
A safe space for people to gather, make friends, and play games. We're a 'pop-up' board game café working with local café's, bars and pubs to bring boardgames and events to venues around south Nottinghamshire. If you know of, or work at, a local venue that you'd like The Wandering Dragon to visit please get in touch!
We're running events for everyone, whether you're looking to
- find a game for the whole family (including your grandparents),
- play some quick and easy party games with your large group of friends,
- find a group of board game lovers to finally play that heavy euro game with,
- take some time to yourself with a relaxing solo-game,
- invite that special someone on a date to play some 2-player games (let's hope they're not too competitive...).
You're welcome to join whether you're with an existing group or looking for people to play with. Don't have any board game knowledge? Don't worry! We're here to help you choose a game you'll love, and we can even teach you the rules.
It's important to us that our events are as affordable as possible. Pay only £4 per person per event for unlimited play!
The Wandering Dragon will be a safe space for everyone, always. We will only be working with venues that are welcoming to trans people, and we will share the accessibility information for all of the venues we work with, with the aim to run fully accessible events whenever possible. We are hoping to raise a minimum of £800 to help towards the following costs:
- Buying board games! These can cost anywhere from £10 - £60 or more,
- Buying other gaming equipment, such as dice trays, extra dice, gaming mats, spare meeples etc,
- Materials to protect board games, such as laminating pouches and card sleeves,
- Buying portable shelving, board game storage and other necessary items for hosting events,
- Marketing costs such as membership cards, advertising, paying artists to create logos and branding etc,
- Additional business costs such as insurance, banking, etc.
£800 is the minimum amount we need on top of our existing funding to get our first event up and running, however we would love to raise even more - the more money we raise the more board games we can buy, and the more events we can run!
Want to see a specific game in our library? Let us know! We will do our best to acquire any games that are requested. We are also accepting donations of games in good condition.
