The Venturists - Young people leading climate action—building skills, confidence, and real projects for a greener future in their community.
We believe it’s incredibly important to raise the aspirations of young people at the earliest opportunity; to inspire them about the possibilities of positive action for the environment - and provide rich, life changing education experiences that stay with them for life. The young people we work with are our future leaders – we harness their energy and ideas and create a space for them to consider future possibilities for people, places and the planet.
With your support, we would like to run ‘Venturists Days’ - social action projects that work with young people to identify social and environmental issues in their community and then develop ideas to tackle that issues. We will work in West/North Yorkshire primary school settings with young people (8 to 11 years old); but the whole school, wider community and the planet will benefit from the projects. The young people will explore ideas; with a focus on developing projects that protect the environment, create greener and more sustainable spaces and contribute to decarbonisation.
We will inspire and motivate the young people by inviting industry professionals, social entrepreneurs and community champions to share their stories, skills and experiences. The young people will present their own ideas to a 'dragons den' panel who can award the materials they need to make / build /kick start their idea.
Previous Venturists have created projects to improvement the environment through habitat creation, reducing food waste and food miles through food growing projects, recycle waste materials (such as a playground made from used truck tyres), create sustainable energy to power school buildings and creating chemical free products for use in the home.
The young people will create projects that immediately positively impact the environment, whilst also being inspired and educated about why its so important. Teaching children about the environment gives them the skills to recognise how their actions affect the world. By learning about issues like climate change and resource conservation, pupils gain practical ways to protect natural resources and create a more sustainable future for all.

Chris Tolson - Head Teacher, Academy at St James "This is one of the best projects I have been involved in. It has changed the lives of our children, helped them aim high and encouraged them to achieve their dreams."
