The Sound of the Streets

RCN 1203764, Taunton

The Sound of the Streets brings free live music to public spaces, connecting it with youth bands and education to inspire creativity, build confidence, and strengthen communities through music.

The Sound of the Streets revels in the power of street bands and celebratory sounds, bringing streets to life with vibrant music. We create free events where people can gather, dance, sing, and make a joyful noise. Street bands are one of the world’s great musical wonders, and we believe they offer an incredible way to inspire people to make music and experience a rich diversity of musical traditions.

Based in the South West of the UK, we work with national and international specialists and musicians to bring exciting live music to our communities. We organise festivals, concerts, parades, and processions, as well as education projects, CPD days, and workshops. Our work includes starting bands and supporting individuals to learn wind, brass, and percussion instruments.

We are proud to run Beats on the Streets, a successful youth drumming group, and Sound Invaders, a youth street band that inspires young musicians through hands-on performance. In addition, we lead a community carnival band made up of a core group of community players, professionals, tutors, and teachers, creating a vibrant mix of experience and talent.

We also offer educational resources, podcasts, and films that explore the history and traditions of outdoor music and celebratory sound, deepening people’s understanding of this important cultural practice.

The Sound of the Streets is growing quickly, and we’re dedicated to fostering creativity, building confidence, and strengthening community connections through music. By keeping music at the heart of our communities, we aim to make it a meaningful and accessible part of everyday life for people of all ages and backgrounds.
