It’s a prize worth thousands of pounds and it could be yours for a £5 ticket - and of course you can buy as many of those as you want, to increase your chances of winning, and to help our much-loved grassroots venue and community space to survive and thrive. If you’re the lucky winner, you and a friend can be on the guest list for every gig we host for an entire 12 months. Free entry to every Sound Lounge gig for a year could be yours for £5! Any devotee of Dire Straits and Mark Knopfler (and of course that’s millions of people worldwide) is going to be knocked out by this entry in the Sound Lounge Prize Draw. Our good friend, former Straits keyboard player Guy Fletcher - Mark’s right-hand-man on every record and tour he’s done over the last 40 years - is donating the opportunity for you to win your own personal tour of British Grove Studios in west London, for yourself and one guest.
As every MK fan knows, this is the world-famous studio that Mark and his team built in 2005. It’s not only been the birthplace of all of Mark’s solo albums from 2007’s ‘Kill To Get Crimson’ onwards, but the recording facility of choice for many other of the world's greatest artists. Thanks to impeccable word-of-mouth recommendations, albums which carry the British Grove birthmark include the
Rolling Stones; ‘Blue & Lonesome’ (2016), The Who's ‘WHO’ (2019), Eric Clapton's I Still Do’ (2016) and titles by Adele, The 1975, Jamie Cullum, and many more. It’s also one of the few UK studios capable of hosting orchestral performances for film
scores, such as Alfonso Cuarón’s ‘Gravity’ (2013) and Christopher McQuarrie’s ‘Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation’ (2023).
We will make arrangements with the winner to fix a mutually convenient date on which Guy will meet you and your guest at British Grove, and show you its two elegant studios and remarkable collection of both vintage and state-of-the-art recording equipment. Mark always says that he’s never had a bad day at British Grove, and yours will be one to remember forever! The Sound Lounge is grassroots music venue in Sutton, south London. We host gigs between 3 and 7 nights every single week throughout the year for hundreds of bands & artists, and every year thousands of people come through our doors to enjoy the music. It is totally magical.
However, the grassroots music sector is a sector in crisis. In this country we are losing venues at a rate of 2-a-week. The costs involved in putting on gigs are huge, and there is no return. We have to cover a bookings team, promo, engineers, expensive license-fees and maintenance of expensive equipment....all of that to take a risk on music that most people haven't heard of yet.
The irony is that once artists get beyond the grassroots sector, there is massive money. Arenas and stadiums are making £millions in profit from artists who have developed their craft and grown their audience in venues like ours.
We are working with Music Venue Trust (MVT) on a national campaign to secure a £1 levy from each stadium & arena ticket sold as an investment which is funnelled back into the grassroots sector to prevent more venues closing.
In the meantime we have our own little campaign. We are doing everything we can to stay open, basically! We know that the demand is there. Our audience numbers are rising, not falling. We get almost daily feedback about the difference we make to people's lives. We run a load of workshops and training and community events in the daytime to bring people together and we know we make a difference. Which means everything. It's what this has always been about.
Thank you so much for supporting us! We are so grateful for our ever-growing community of followers, because it is people's care and involvement that makes this place so special!!! THANK YOU x
We didn't want to set up a standard crowdfunder without feeling like we were giving something back to people. So we have pulled together some prizes to run a raffle-style campaign which anyone can get involved in.
These prize draws are going to be in a series, and this is #1. You can enter for as little as £5. When the time comes to draw out names, if you win we'll contact you so you can choose the prize you're after first to make sure you're coming away with what you want.
Entry options - you can enter for £5 for one entry. £10 will get you three ticket entries :)
