Help us bring 'The Shee' to life; a surreal short film inspired by Manx folklore, emo-culture and girlhood, set on the Isle of Man in 2006
I’m Shannen - a creative originally from the Isle of Man.
I’ve been chiselling away at this idea during my 11 years of Londons' chaos & grind (fashion industry - so enough said?)
What started as strange poems of teenage nostalgia, scribbled as a form of escapism on night buses and in my South London flat, has now grown into something much bigger...

A dark, magic-realism short where the real collides with the surreal - rooted in Manx folklore, identity and the mundane beauty of islander life.
Growing up on the island was a constant contradiction. Sat in skinny jeans, drinking cheap cider in ancient castle ruins. Saying goodbye to the faeries on the drive back to Douglas in a rammed Ford Fiesta.
It was gritty. It was magical. It was the Isle of Man, and it was ours.
Set in 2006, the film follows Roxy, a 16-year-old drifting between the mundanity of island life and an otherworldly space known as the REALM. Here, she encounters the SHEE - a faerie-like creature manifesting her inner conflict.
This project is deeply personal - but it’s also bigger than me.
SHEE is about rural youth, subculture and the communities that exist just outside of the mainstream. It celebrates Manx fairytales, language and identity, while creating space for underrepresented voices and emerging creatives.
SHEE also holds a double meaning - reflecting the turbulence of girlhood and how early pressures and experiences shape women later in life. She has so much expected of her.
Now, in collaboration with Somewhere Films (a female-led production company) we’re ready to bring her, the SHEE, to life.
But we’re doing it independently.
Because we want to do it properly.
To pay people fairly.
To build something honest.

We are committed to a sustainable, inclusive production, working with local creatives and creating opportunities for emerging talent wherever possible.
There’s something important about telling stories from places like the Isle of Man. About capturing communities that exist in their own rhythm - where youth create their own culture, their own worlds, their own meaning.
SHEE is just the beginning.
This short film is a proof of concept for a larger vision - a feature, a series and a wider surreal world that continues to explore identity, belonging and the pull of where you come from.
