Aim

Project Rise aims to engage with young people who are feeling disengaged depressed and anxious about their future, through art film & music.

I founded On the Brink Arts in 2021. We made the film RISE over the last 12 months on a very small budget and it is having a big impact already. The children involved in the soundscape are very proud and excited to be part of Project Rise. We will be screening it at Glastonbury Festival before moving it to more local venues

Our first project is called  RISE- Empowering young people by giving them a voice channelled through creative expression about the world they live in

The film will be its kick-starter. It will be screened across Gloucestershire with creative workshops run in response to the film.

We will run these for several weeks with the ideas and creative processes being developed culminating in large scale public art such as a mural and sculpture installations and a live production. The workshops will start in November 23 and the creative outcomes will be made and installed by Spring of 24 and the live production performed early next year.

It will have a direct and long-lasting positive impact on the youth that we work with by giving them a creative channel to express themselves about the issues they face around climate change and their mental health. It will empower the youth and their communities to take positive climate action to build resilience and adapt to the changing environmental and economic landscape.

The project starts in Gloucester and will tour the UK.

What the money raised will be spent on

The money raised will enable my small team to get the first stage of this project off the ground. This will involve promoting the project on a local level. We need to connect with other organisations and get committed partnerships to give project Rise the best start in life! The Arts Council application, where I am applying  for £30,000 want to see a solid plan with established partners involved in a project of this size. They also want to see 10% match funding so the amount we raise here will demonstrate this.

The Noke Koi tribe, whose leader Poa Maestra you can see in the film and whose message Romie Joe Wright delivers at the end of the film, are very keen to be involved in Project Rise. We are planning creative collaborations with this Amazon tribe and the youth from Gloucester. We will be sending them a sum of £300 for their artistic and musical involvement at the start of the project, with further payments to be made as the project progresses. This will help towards hammocks, food and musical instruments.
