Project aim

Restoration of Semi-Natural Ancient Woodland for Conservation, Biodiversity, Research and Education using traditional woodland skills.

About the project

The Riddy wood project is a new venture by Bushcraft Education Ltd. a not for profit organisation which aims to use bushcraft and traditional countryside skills to engage people with nature. The project aims to restore an area of semi-natural ancient woodland which has been left derelict and unmanaged for many years to its former glory. The management will include traditional coppicing and regeneration of woodland through planting and selective thinning to produce a rich, biodiverse and beautiful woodland. We are specifically aiming to conserve a number of rare forest floor plants such as yellow archangel and to promote and support rare invertebrates such a hairstreak butterflies and birds such as the nightingale.

Unfortunately we don't have the capital required to get our project up and running and are desperately in need of additional tools and equipment to make it possible for us to meet our management objectives.

Our plan is to invite people to Riddy Wood later this year and in the future to offer opportunities for groups and individuals to learn about traditional woodland management, bushcraft, ecology, biodiversity and wildlife.
