Graduate short film inspired by the infamous Burke and Hare murders, from the POV of the women involved. Shooting Summer 2026.
STORY
What if one of Scotland's most infamous true crime stories was told from the perspective of the woman forced to be part of it?
Set in 1820s Edinburgh, The Resurrection Men is a sapphic gothic thriller inspired by the notorious Burke and Hare murders. The film follows Nell Burke as she sits down to dinner with her husband, his accomplice Hare and wife Maggie, and a woman who unknowingly facing a terrible fate.
As the evening unfolds, what begins as polite conversation transforms into a dangerous battle of wills.
Beneath the candlelight and copious amounts of wine lies a web of secrets, betrayal, and buried desires. While Burke and Hare work to conceal their crimes, Nell quietly pursues a goal of her own: revenge.
Drawing inspiration from gothic romance, historical crime, and queer storytelling, The Resurrection Men reimagines a familiar piece of history through a lens rarely seen. This is not a story about the men whose names survived history, but about the women who were left in their shadow.
With rich dark-academia visuals, tense character-driven drama, and a story that blends love, grief, greed, and vengeance, The Resurrection Menaims to create a bold and atmospheric short film that can serve as a proof of concept for a future feature or series.
We're raising funds to bring this vision to life and to assemble a talented team of artists, filmmakers, and performers who share our passion for telling distinctive queer stories. Every contribution, no matter the size, helps us recreate the world of 19th-century Edinburgh and tell a story that deserves to be heard.

FUNDING
We are looking to raise £4000 for our film. This will be to pay for our five wonderful cast members, our location which is a beautiful two story townhouse in Edinburgh, van hires, costume, production design and plenty food for all cast and crew! Any donations are greatly appreciated - and to show this we have a number of rewards up for grabs! This includes:
- Thank you message from crew + Social media shoutout
- Thank you packages includes: a postcard, wax seal and bookmark.
- Name in draw to win a Main Character Club photoshoot (valued at £600!)

TERMS AND CONDITIONS – The Resurecction Men PRIZE DRAW (Main Character Club photoshoot)
Promoter
The promoter of this prize draw is The Resurrection Men Crew ("the Promoter").

Eligibility
2.1 The prize draw is open anyone aged 18 years or over.
2.2 Employees, contractors, immediate family members, or anyone professionally involved in the administration of the prize draw are not eligible to enter.
2.3 By entering, participants confirm they meet the eligibility requirements.
Prize
3.1 One winner will receive:
A Main Character Club Photoshoot experience connected to the production of The Resurrection Men.
3.2 The prize is non-transferable and no cash alternative will be offered.
3.3 The Promoter reserves the right to substitute the prize with another of equal or greater value if circumstances beyond the Promoter's control make this necessary.
Entry Period
4.1 Entries open on 09/06/2026.
4.2 Entries close at 23:00 on 23/06/2026.
4.3 Entries received after the closing date will not be included in the draw.
Paid Entries
5.1 Entries may be obtained through contributions made via the Crowdfunder campaign.
5.2 Entry allocations are:
• £0 = 1 entry
• £25 contribution = 1 entry
• £50 contribution = 3 entries
•£100 contribution - 5 entries
5.3 Entry numbers will be calculated based on the contribution level selected.
Free Entry Route
6.1 No purchase or donation is necessary to enter.
6.2 To enter for free, send an email containing:
• Full name
• Email address
• Telephone number
• The words "The Resurrection Men Prize Draw Entry"
to:
6.3 Free entries must arrive before the closing date stated in Section 4.
6.4 Each valid entry will receive one entry into the prize draw.
6.5 Multiple entries are permitted and will be treated equally to paid entries, provided each entry is submitted separately and received before the closing date.
6.6 Free entries will have exactly the same chance of winning as paid entries.
Winner Selection
7.1 The winner will be selected at random from all valid entries received during the Entry Period.
7.2 The draw will be conducted using a random selection process within 14 days of the closing date.
7.3 All valid paid and free entries will be included equally.
Winner Notification
8.1 The winner will be contacted by email and/or telephone within 14 days of the draw.
8.2 If the winner does not respond within 14 days, the Promoter reserves the right to draw an alternative winner.
Prize Fulfilment
9.1 The photoshoot date, location, and practical arrangements will be agreed between the winner and the Promoter up until summer 2028.
9.2 Reasonable travel costs are not included unless specifically stated by the Promoter.
9.3 The winner may be required to sign standard photography and participation consent forms.
Liability
10.1 The Promoter accepts no responsibility for entries lost, delayed, damaged, or not received for any reason.
10.2 The Promoter shall not be liable for circumstances outside its reasonable control that prevent the prize from being fulfilled as described.
Data Protection
11.1 Personal data supplied during the course of this prize draw will be used solely for administering the prize draw and the Crowdfunder campaign.
11.2 Personal information will be processed in accordance with applicable UK data protection legislation.
11.3 Entrants may request access to or deletion of their personal data by contacting the Promoter.
General
12.1 The Promoter reserves the right to amend these Terms and Conditions where necessary due to circumstances beyond its control.
12.2 The Promoter's decision regarding any aspect of the prize draw is final.
12.3 These Terms and Conditions are governed by the laws of England and Wales.
