We're still collecting donations

On the 11th February 2022 we'd raised £7,810 with 168 supporters in 197 days. But as every pound matters, we're continuing to collect donations from supporters.

Regular Donations: After you have completed your donation you will be able to set-up a regular donation arrangement to continue supporting this great cause.

All extra funds will go towards any extra start up costs that need to be covered as well as hosting free community events at the space

HI FRIENDS!

Do you also think Brighton is missing a queer radical space? We’re working to open one within the next few months! We’re currently in the fundraising stage, and there’s still much to do!

What will the space be like?

The Queery will be a co-op, owned and run by its members. Its main focus will be the benefit of the local queer community. It will be run in a non-hierarchical way, with solidarity at its heart. A space for queers, by queers.

The Queery will have a radical bookstore, a small library, a small vegan café, a space available to hire for workshops, talks, classes, meetings, support groups, open mics, film nights and much more! It will also be wheelchair accessible.

Bills and wages will be paid with the sale of stock and food, but nobody will ever be turned away. The space will be available to everyone! The library will be there for anyone to enjoy, the cafe will sell food with prices on a sliding scale and we will have a Pay It Forward scheme for those who need it.

We want to create a space where all queers feel safe and welcome, a place where we can find freedom and belonging, our own little corner in this hostile world. To achieve this, The Queery will have a zero tolerance policy on homophobia, biphobia, transphobia, fatbophia, xenophobia, racism, ableism. We believe in the abolition of binaries, borders, prisons, the state and capitalism.

Why do we need funding?

We’re hoping to raise whatever we can to put towards stocking books, comics and graphic novels. Some will be mainstream, but a specific focus will be put on small and independent queer presses and authors who we are already reaching out to and very excited to support! The funds will also go towards the initial setup of the space.

Some of the things we’d like to do/have in the space:

  • Open mic nights
  • Author Events
  • Queer health and HIV awareness workshops
  • Drug safety workshops
  • Abolition workshops
  • Local art exhibitions
  • Film nights
  • Reading clubs
  • Craft nights
  • Yoga classes
  • Life drawing classes
  • Support groups meetings
  • Readings for children
  • A bi-weekly fayre where local queer folx can sell their homemade items
