Aim

To bring the National Emergency Briefing to the people.

In November 2025, the UK’s leading experts delivered an official-style emergency briefing on the climate and nature crisis to MPs and national leaders in Westminster. It set a new baseline for understanding - but it reached only a fraction of those who need to hear it. This crowdfunder exists to change that.

We are turning the briefing into a powerful public information film, designed to travel from Westminster to every constituency, so that MPs and communities can see the same evidence, together. By screening the film in communities up and down the UK, we aim to create a moment of shared awareness, cutting through misinformation to understand the threat - and the solutions.

Who We Are

We are the team behind the National Emergency Briefing: a non-partisan group of science communicators, creatives and organisers working with some of the UK’s most respected experts.

The National Emergency Briefing brings together leading voices on climate, nature, health, food, national security and the economy to deliver the clear, joined-up briefing the country needs, and that the Government should be giving.

Founders' Commitment

Cofounders Simon Oldridge and Nick Oldridge have provided the £200,000+ spent on the project so far. They have worked without pay during 2025 and will continue to do so throughout 2026, but funding is now needed to support the next phase of delivery. Many others involved in the project have donated their time pro bono or at heavily reduced rates.

Our Vision

Our vision is to ensure that decision-makers and the public hear the unfiltered truth about the climate and nature crisis, and understand the science-led pathways to action — free from the misinformation and distortion that dominate public debate.

We believe this can help trigger a societal tipping point towards genuine emergency action: protecting the public while revitalising our economy.

This is not activism or party politics. It’s about shared facts, national preparedness and collective understanding. As James Baldwin put it, “Nothing can be changed until it is faced.”

How We Will Make This Happen

We believe every household should have access to the same clear briefing that 1,200 MPs and national leaders received at Westminster Central Hall in November 2025.

That’s why we are turning the live event into a powerful 45-minute film that is accessible, authoritative and designed to be watched together in village halls, churches, community centres, workplaces, cinemas and other venues across the country.

Each local screening will be followed by a chaired discussion, bringing together the MP alongside voices from business, science, youth and community leadership, reflecting the full range of people affected by this crisis.

The national rollout will be supported by leading national institutions and public interest organisations that back the National Emergency Briefing, including the National Trust, WWF and the RSPB.

Why We Need Your Help

The Westminster event was just the start. While it was vital that so many national leaders heard this briefing, most MPs did not, and the public has yet to hear it at all. The film and its nationwide screenings give us a unique opportunity to:

Ensure every MP is properly briefed
Around 15% of MPs attended the Westminster event. Taking this film into every constituency creates a practical, constructive way to invite the other 85% of MPs to see the same evidence alongside their constituents.

Bring the public up to speed
The climate and nature crisis will affect every aspect of our lives, and addressing it requires significant change. The public need to understand the risks we face - and the science-led pathways available - if they are to support the policies needed.

Counter misinformation and distortion
Much of the media fails to report the crisis with the depth and accuracy it demands. As a result, many people remain unclear about the true risks, costs and effectiveness of solutions, and are regularly exposed to misleading narratives. This film provides a trusted, evidence-based counterweight.

Restore a sense of agency
There is often a belief that political power resides exclusively in Westminster, and that people in the rest of the UK are unable to make an impact on the big issues. By bringing the briefing into communities across the UK, we can create shared moments of understanding, helping people feel informed, involved and empowered.

What We Need the Money For

A high-quality film intended for wide public consumption is, unfortunately, not cheap to make - and the final costs have come in higher than our initial estimate:

Creative Development £30,000

Casting £3,000

Studio hire £5,000

Film production £82,000

Post production £35,000

Staff £50,000

Distribution £15,000

Total: £220,000

All founder time continues to be provided on a voluntary basis; funds raised will be used solely to deliver the film and to coordinate and promote the national rollout.

Summary

The climate and nature crisis affects our health, security, food and economy — here and now.

The National Emergency Briefing set a new baseline for understanding. This crowdfunder ensures that briefing doesn’t stay in Westminster.

This is a real opportunity to start a national conversation about the threat we face, and what we can do about it. Please help us seize it.
