Open Door is one of Merseyside’s most dynamic and progressive independent charities committed to shaping change in Mental Health. Based in Birkenhead, we deliver a holistic and creative programme of services that support the wellbeing and mental health of young people and families, using innovation, arts and culture as a catalyst for change. All our opportunities are free of charge, and we have no waiting lists for any of our experiences; we are committed to providing free, fast and effective mental health support at the point that people need it most.

The Open Door Charity

We have grown to become the largest independent provider of talking therapies in Wirral. We have maintained no waiting lists, despite seeing a 50% increase in demand for our support services throughout the pandemic, we were able to remain throughout such an unpresedented time when others weren’t able to. Over the past year we have supported over 1,000 vulnerable young people, helping to elevate pressures on statetory service waiting lists. We so often see a trend in young peoples mental health declining due to the lengthy wait for statetory service, we’re here to solve that problem with creative solutions. The success of our service illustrates how our creative, informal, innovative, responsive and progressive approach sets us apart.

On average we see a 55% reduction in symptoms of anxiety and depression in our members. We achieve this by being driven by people from our own community providing all of our frontline services, they themselves taking the lead in designing and implementing provisions so we are truly designed by young people, for young people in this community. 98% of our members say that they would be worse off without the Open Door, this highlights the huge impact we have in our community and the need for a free and immediate service.
