Help us turn some old abandoned garages into permanent workspace for our local community!
What is the Project?
The Mosaic Arts Centre is a project to bring back into use the derelict garages of one of Camden's most deprived council estates, space that has been empty for 43 years.
This section of the estate will be brought back into use as space for community organisations and businesses, workshops, and artist studios. We eventually expect at least 200 people to be working out of the centre, unleashing local energy and prosperity. One third of the new space will be dedicated to community use, with a weekly programme of free activities. Our waiting list for these spaces is already oversubscribed by local residents who have found out about the project through word of mouth alone, highlighting the need for such services in the area.

Our apprentices Jenny and Connor working with professional photographer and volunteer Steve and Diploma Graduate Eniko.
Why is this important?
Our geographical area ranks number 1 in deprivation in Camden. In our area this particularly affects older people and then children.
We define the project as a development of ‘civic space’, and as such we are focusing on accessibility for local people and community benefit.
This offering creates a key local opportunity which will have multiple knock on benefits including improved community safety, public spaces, accessibility, community provision and jobs and enterprise.

How do we make this happen?
We have managed to raise 75% of the funding through the Mayors Good Growth Fund, the Arts Council and Camden Council. We need to raise another 25% to see this project through to its full potential.
Who are we?
As an organisation we are the London School of Mosaic, but actually there are so many people and groups that work from here. As people we are three permanent members of staff, a bunch of freelancers, tens of volunteers, four more arts groups, two more charities, a canteen, and a quickly growing community from our local housing-estate and wider area.
Wellness and social inclusion is at the heart of what we do and as a The London School of Mosaic, our mission is to provide opportunities for well-being and social cohesion through the creation of art. We work extensively with vulnerable people within the community, including those with special educational needs and troubled juveniles, using mosaic as a tool for therapy.
