Help them get started
Your support makes a difference
Help The Mirrorbox on its UK Journey carrying messages from people with ME and Long Covid to the places they love but can no longer reach.
Imagine not being able to reach a place you love. A place where life carries on without you.
For many people, this is a reality.
The Mirrorbox is travelling across the UK, carrying messages from people living with ME and Long Covid to places they love but can no longer get to.
At each stop, visitors enter and listen to the message from the person who has chosen that place. Standing where they would be, they are invited to write a postcard in reply.
When illness removes you from places and people you love, absence can make you invisible. The Mirrorbox gives that absence a voice and presence — connecting those who cannot be there with those who are.
We are fundraising to transport, install and run the Mirrorbox at each stop, and share the Journey online with those unable to be there.
The Mirrorbox Journey began in 2025. It has visited locations in Bristol, the top of Glastonbury Tor and the Royal Opera House. Over the next 12 months, it will journey to Brighton, Thornton Heath Leisure Centre, Tate Modern, Whitby, Robin Hood’s Bay and Bingley Five-Rise Locks.
From the famous to the everyday, each place has been chosen by someone living with ME or Long Covid as somewhere they love but can no longer reach.
Hundreds of people have stepped inside the Mirrorbox, listened to the message from the person who chose that place and have written postcards in reply.
“Knowing people were there, hearing my message made me feel connected - like I was with them. More importantly, it made me feel visible again.” — Charlotte, Glastonbury Tor
The Mirrorbox is a growing national artwork, connecting people across distance and building a collective portrait of the places we love, the lives we lead, and what it means to be absent from them.
The Journey also exists online. A digital message map holds every message sent to the project, while digital postcards and documentation from each stop allow people who cannot be there to take part.
More than two million people in the UK live with ME and Long Covid. Many are housebound or bed-bound for months, often years.
They are absent from the places and communities they love — not by choice, but because they cannot be there.
When you are missing from public life, you can become invisible. Your voice can go unheard.
It is hard for absence to be seen.
The Mirrorbox gives that absence a voice and presence. It brings into view people whose lives are often hidden from the wider world.
We are a small, independent art project, set up by people living with ME and Long Covid.
Our ambition is big.
Making and touring an artwork across the UK is expensive.
But we are determined to put unheard voices and messages out into the world — beyond the limits of where their bodies can take them.
Your donation helps us continue the Journey, taking The Mirrorbox and these messages to the places they belong. Enabling people at these places to listen, understand and connect with those absent.
At a time when the world can feel increasingly divided, these simple moments of human connection and understanding matter.
Every donation helps the Mirrorbox continue its Journey, carrying the voices of people who cannot be there to the places they love.
Your support helps us:
Every donation, whatever the size, helps keep the Journey going.
£20 — Carry a Reflection
Support the Journey and receive a reflective Mirrorbox pin badge as a thank you.
£50 — Help people follow the Journey from home

£120 — Support a Mirrorbox Visit
Make a larger contribution towards bringing the Mirrorbox to one of the places on its Journey, helping meet the costs of transporting, installing and delivering the artwork across the UK.
The Mirrorbox Journey is part of the nationwide project "I would be here if I could", created by artist Alison Larkman, who lives with ME.
Run by Invisible Visible CIC, the project has reached this stage with financial support from private donations, Mirrorbox location partners and Arts Council England. It is also recognised by leading UK ME and Long Covid charities: ME Association, Action for ME and Long Covid UK.
Visit, follow and spread the word. Help us make visible the absence of so many people missing from everyday life.
