Aim

The Men's Mind Project aims at offering support to those who are suffering with there mental health

Hiya. I would like to introduce myself for those who don't know me. Here's my story...

My name is Tom Perry, I'm Founder and director of The Men's Mind Project. I have suffered with mental health for the best part of 15 years on and off, some years better than others. 

It was when I was 17 I considered taking my own life. I was feeling down, alone and felt no one understood me but I managed to pick myself up and carried on. I then started to suffer with really bad depression to the point I couldn't leave the house, I was on tablets for years to mellow me out. I eventually took myself off the tablets and for years life felt good. 

Then came another big fall, December 2020 I had a massive breakdown. I felt like I couldn't breathe and genuinely thought I was having a heart attack. I was off work for 3 weeks fighting every day to get better. To top it off, my family and I ended up positive with Covid which made recovery a lot harder. 

I ended up starting CBT therapy and it helped massively, so much so that I took a real interest in mental health. 

I was finding that nearly every week we were hearing about another man who sadly took his own life. I really wanted to help in some way, so I took to Facebook to try and build my own group to give men a place where they were able to talk to others who may understand how they were feeling. 

Sometimes talking helps, if this group can help one man with their mental health struggles then I will sleep a little bit better at night.

Here we are now, a group growing everyday. More and more men coming forward, opening up and sharing their worries and struggles. Thank you to everyone who has joined this group, helping me break the stigma. Always remember you are never alone, we can be your light in the your darkest times. Let us get talking.✌????
