Aim
Christmas is a time for sharing and caring. We are creating a Christmas Day event for Care Leavers in Manchester on Christmas Day.
The Christmas Dinners were set up with the intention that no care leaver would be left alone on Christmas Day. Inspired by TOPE in 2012, The Christmas Dinners began in Manchester in 2013, and in the years following there have been Christmas Dinners across the UK and the movements continuing to grow with an amazing 17 Christmas Dinners across the country in 2019! The Christmas Dinner is not a charity or a Social Enterprise, nor an organisation. It is a project organised entirely by an independent group of volunteers in each area who come together, with planning taking place between September and December each year. The volunteers arrange a venue, presents, a chef, food, transport, volunteers and often so much more – they create magic and memories that will last a lifetime.
Christmas 2020 will be particularly challenging, as Covid-19 means that we will no longer be able to host our annual get together on Christmas Day. Undaunted, the Manchester volunteer team are planning to provide decorations and deliver food and gifts on Christmas Day to care leavers who are living in isolation. To do this, we need to raise funds to pay for gifts, fill food hampers and buy amazing decorations that have the potential to brighten someone's life.
