I am raising money for this wonderful hospital that was very important for my children - please support my small effort if you can.
I think those who know me can attest to the fact that I have tended to fly in the face of healthy living, and so the concept that I could possibly run a half-marathon in less than two weeks’ time seems foolhardy and slightly ridiculous. After all, my only tangible running achievement so far has been to half complete a half-marathon in May 2023; I pulled up claiming that I had pulled a calf muscle, but few people seemed convinced…not least me.
However, having lost a lot of weight, I have off-set this by gaining some determination to stop watching others seize the day and to do so myself. I have thus gone from walk-running in December 2022 to regularly running 20 miles a week now six months later, and so I think it may be possible for me at the grand age of 61 to fulfil an ambition I had as a young man, and one that has been put on hold long enough.
That is enough on me, but the best thing about this challenge is that it gives me the chance to raise serious money to support Great Ormond Street Hospital. I hardly need to laud their world class work, but you may not know that all three of my children – Rosanna, Daniella and Tom – visited there as very young children due to a complete loss of sight caused by an hereditary eye condition passed on through my genes. It was very distressing to see the children in this state, but I had and still have no doubt that the hospital did their very best to support the children through this time and allowed them to thrive from then on.
It's time I supported GOSH back, and, of course, I would be very grateful if you too saw this as an opportunity to help this wonderful hospital.
In anticipation, thank you for your support.
