Since 2014, we've empowered our young people and community in Brixton. We are fundraising £50k to equip a new, purpose-built youth space.

WE ARE THE ADVOCACY ACADEMY!
A home for grassroots youth organising in the UK.
We are youth organisers, based in Brixton since 2014, working to build a future where young people are at the forefront of shaping a more just, fair, and equal society for all. We create spaces for young people with lived experience of injustice to learn the skills, knowledge and confidence to build power and become agents of lasting change in their community.
Our existing home has become a valuable and loved resource in the wider Brixton community, and as we’ve grown over the years, it has been the organising ground for a wide range of grassroots groups - who span generations of active community members - to meet, learn and strategise.
But against a backdrop of continued closures of youth centres and community spaces, now more than ever there is a greater need for us to build a centre which continues the critical civic and community works.
We are raising funds to outfit and equip our new youth and community centre in the heart of Brixton. We have signed a ten-year lease with Lambeth Council to move into the currently unused underground space located within the basement of the Brixton Recreation Centre. It will be a newly created space, that is purpose designed for our young people and the wider grassroots community groups we currently provide space for. It will be five times the size of our former space and will represent a much needed new community resource for young people, the community in Brixton and beyond.
To fund the tailored design aspects of this project, we need to raise £250,000 through various sources, leading with the launch of our crowdfunding campaign and individual donations. This will go towards paying for items tailored to the needs of our young people and community, such as equipment, light fittings, tables and chairs - all serving to make the space as accessible as possible for the work that we do.
Help us turn the tide of youth centre closures! Please support us today, so we can open our brand new and expanded youth centre next year, and stay rooted in the heart of Brixton.
Your donation will provide young people in Brixton with a vibrant, friendly space they can call their own.
Excited to see what the final space could look like with your support? Check out the final designs below, created with the ideas and suggestions shared in the multiple design and dreaming spaces we held with our young people and wider community.
