Aim

Raise funds to to renovate and relaunch the school library - providing a warm and welcoming space, in memory of our former Librarian, Jane.

In early 2020, the much-loved librarian of South Wirral High School, Jane Edwards, passed away. In Jane's memory, we want to renovate and relaunch the school library - providing a warm and welcoming space. A fitting legacy for a woman who always found time for every student.

We want to create a space that can help promote literacy across the school, promote a love of reading, and become an area used not just in lessons, but also as a social area through the day. This will include a more diverse range of books including those from BAME authors, an LGBTQ+ section and local history. We would also create a university-style research area with upgraded ICT facilities and one-to-one student guidance.

The project will be in collaboration with a student 'literacy leaders' group, with faculty representatives who can take the project in the direction the students want, making a sustainable future for the library.
