“If I’d known it was going to end like this, I would have enjoyed myself more.” – Philip Foster
With a global economic crisis raging, Philip Foster secretly offers his life to the government voluntary euthanasia scheme in return for financial benefits for his children. But as the mysteriously inhuman Dr Mort prepares him for death, Philip must fight his survival instincts and do the right thing to secure his kids’ future.
INDIGNITAS is a short sci-fi/thriller with a twist of dark humour.
Indignitas takes us through dystopian nightmares, futuristic visions and agonising moral dilemmas. As Philip looks back on his life and contemplates his death he is angered by the warped morals of the lawmakers. He does, however, find fragments of wry humour reflecting on the absurdity of life and inevitability of death. Will he finally experience the comforting peace of a loving father’s ultimate sacrifice for his children or rail against the dystopian machine?
The film was originally a stage play receiving critical acclaim and enjoying international success at theatre festivals worldwide, including a West-End showcase at the Criterion Theatre and shows in Sydney and Los Angeles.
Characters
Philip Foster is a decent man living in difficult times. Happily married, all he wants is a fair start in life for the three kids he’s so desperately proud of. And he’s prepared to surrender his life to obtain it. Recently made redundant from the library, Philip must face facts, dig deep, and make the biggest decision of his life.
Dr Mort is the highly efficient medic who oversees Philip’s impending termination at the clinic. Her attentive customer-facing manner carefully distances herself from too much personal interaction with clients, but her smiles are cool, lacking empathy or kindness. Ultra-efficient and ready with persuasive answers for all the big questions, she seems untroubled by the moral dilemma of her task.
You may recognise the A-List Actors from the Game Of Throne Franchise.
We have Mark Addy from the Game Of Thrones franchise playing Philip Foster. We have Bethany Antonia from The House Of Dragon Playing Dr Mort.
