We are raising money for a new pool table at The Hut.

We are Youth 2 Youth, a youth organisation based in Bere Alston, a small rural village in the Tamar Valley, Devon and we run The Hut youth club. We exist because young people in our community have very little to do and very few places to go. There are no easy transport links to bigger towns, activities cost money that many families don't have, and the options locally are slim. The Hut is often the main thing standing between our young people and an evening of boredom, isolation, or wandering somewhere they shouldn't be.1787061467_20250904_195122.jpg

Our team of paid youth workers show up three evenings a week, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 6 to 8pm, not to run structured programmes or tick boxes, but to be present. To create a space where young people feel safe, welcomed and valued. Some of the most important conversations we have with young people happen completely informally, over a game of pool. That's the magic of what we do. We're not a sports club or a coaching programme. We're a place where young people can just be, with trusted adults nearby and something genuinely enjoyable to do.

Pool has always been at the heart of The Hut. It's free, it's social, it doesn't matter how fit you are or how much money you've got, anyone can pick up a cue. But here's the problem. Our table is old and tired, and young people have noticed. They've told us directly that the quality isn't good enough, and we've seen where some of them are going instead. The local pub and social club have newer, better maintained tables. But many of our young people are underage, and those environments promote a drinking culture that simply isn't healthy or appropriate for them. We'd much rather they were with us, talking to youth workers, than spending time around adults who are drinking.

Last summer we ran a pool competition at The Hut and it was brilliant. Young people had something to work towards, something to be proud of, and it brought in faces we hadn't seen in a while. We want to do it again this year, bigger and better than before. But to do that properly, we need a table worth competing on.

That's what this fundraiser is for. A new pool table, cues and balls. It sounds simple because it is. But the impact is anything but simple. It brings young people back through our door. It gives them a reason to choose The Hut over the pub. It gets them moving, laughing and competing in a safe environment. And it gives our youth workers the chance to do what they do best, build relationships with the young people who need them most.

The good news is that your donation goes twice as far.

Sport England have recognised the value of this project and have offered to match 50% of what we raise. That means every pound you donate is effectively doubled. We need to reach 25 donations to unlock their pledge, at which point their contribution becomes visible on this page and we're already halfway there. If you've ever wondered whether a small donation makes a difference, here it absolutely does.1787061950_sport-england-logo-blue-cmyk.jpg

Bere Alston is a tight knit community and word travels fast. We know that once that new table is in place, young people will come. They've already told us they want it. Help us give it to them.1787061974_img-20250925-wa0004.jpg
