Aim

To raise the funds needed to keep the fantastic Hornets Community Boxing Club open for locals in Ramsgate, Margate and Broadstairs

What Hornets Boxing Club has achieved since July is unbelievable – our gym has been made COVID safe to England Boxing standards with support from Kent Sport Return to Action programme and re-opened.  Our boxers aged 6 to 65 were back training and getting fit.  Coaching sessions ran 5 days a week, open to regulars and first time boxers.

We could only train 18 people at a time with the social distancing rules but still managed to train 35 boys and girls plus a group of over 18’s each night we opened.  It’s a huge achievement and we’re very proud of where we are today.  This would not have been possible without the incredibly generous support of individuals who donated over £3,000 over the summer months.  This money kept Hornets running - Covid restrictions limited the number of boxers we could have in the gym per session which left us short on subs so these donations have been a lifeline.  Thank you everyone who donated.  We wouldn’t be here without you.  You know who you are!!!

And did we mention Hornets boss and Head Coach Chris Daley has received the Black History Month Next Gen Trailblazers award this month too?  Chris was chosen by double Olympic gold medal winning boxer Nicola Adams OBE for this award which goes to “inspiring individuals” chosen for their “cause-driven work, creating a lasting legacy for the next generation of Brits.”  Well done Chris!

After lockdown 2 we need your help more than ever!

We won't see any subs until January. On top of this usually in November we’d be getting ready to put on a Show at Royal Harbour school.  Our shows draw boxers from as far afield as Southampton and South London and all over Kent.  We are disappointed our boxers will miss out on the chance to compete, but it’s also a big knock on our income. We’re a not for profit organisation run by volunteers so without the show we can't pay our bills....but we're not beaten yet!  We're fundraising to put more coaches through England Boxing training so we can run more classes for more people to earn our way out of the problem.

Where is your money going?

The club is aiming to raise £6,000 to keep the gym going and COVID safe for our boxers.  If we raise £3,000 from donations Sport England have pledged to donate £3,000 match funding under their ‘Active Together’ Crowdfunding initiative ...but only if we hit our target.  We won't receive any match funding at all if we don't make the £3,000 so please give generously!  Thank you for your support!!!
