The Hideaway needs you! We're a non-profit café where the community and young people come to improve their wellbeing. You can help us...

We're still collecting donations

On the 28th March 2023 we'd raised £4,345 with 51 supporters in 28 days. But as every pound matters, we're continuing to collect donations from supporters.

 New stretch target

If we reach our target, we would love to raise further funds towards updating our outdoor tables and chairs for the terrace and play equipment for children and families.

Who are we?

The Hideaway is a non-profit café with a big heart. An initiative of Matrix, a youth work charity, it connects skilled local residents with the needs of young people. The café is open to the public for barista coffee, cakes and light lunches, with profits from every item served fed back into Matrix youth projects across the Borough.

Our daily café team is enriched with young people who need a boost into employment, gaining on-the-job skills and qualifications in a supportive environment. Through traineeships and work placements we support 16 - 21 year olds to gain confidence and to cultivate social and emotional skills in a working environment.

Once the school day ends, the café is transformed into a safe social space - just for young people - here they have fun, make friends, build relational connections with youth workers and gain life skills.

A vital part of the community

Since we opened in 2021 The Hideaway has provided a growing number of local residents with a warm space to RETREAT, CONNECT and CREATE. During the day a variety of community groups use the space to provide individuals with activities or spaces that improve their wellbeing, including: NCT group for new mums, men’s breakfast, LGBTQ+ support sessions and art and creative sessions.

Each day after school the Youth Hideaway opens to 11-18 year olds. This FREE, fun welcoming drop-in gives young people space to be themselves, connect with others their age and feel valued and encouraged. They can also take part in leadership training and creative workshops. We subsidise food and drinks so they can get a meal before they go home and on fridays all food is free! Over 200 young people have taken advantage of this space since it opened in 2021.

Why are we asking for your help?

We are crowdfunding as our electricity costs have doubled over the last 6 months and we don’t want to pass these costs on to our customers who benefit from their time in this space.

We are aiming to raise £2500 which will cover 5 months of additional costs.

This will enable us to continue to provide spaces for local people to gather to RETREAT, CONNECT and CREATE for the benefit of their wellbeing AND to continue providing young people with a safe space to meet and FREE or subsidised food each week.

All funds raised will go towards ensuring the rising cost of energy does not prevent us from opening the café to all those who need it.

Anyone who donates £25 or over can be immortalised on the walls of The Hideaway, with their name beautifully inscribed on our new ‘Hide and Seek’ wall.
