Aim

We aim to supply a small community in the Peruvian Andes with a greenhouse to let them grow their own food to solve malnutrition.

We are 'The Hatters Explorer Scout Unit' of Southgate London, a group of young people aged between 14-18 devoted to helping others and improving our community. As we are part of a wider movement, it means not only do we help our local community, but we also help the larger community of the worldwide scouting association.

We are fundraising to supply the small village of Viacha high in the Peruvian Andes with a thermal mass greenhouse. Therefore, they will be able to grow their own food as high altitude and poor soil means they are only able to cultivate a limited number of crops. They live too far away from any cities to be able to buy any food, meaning they depend purely on their own means of agriculture. In this small town, infrastructure is very poor and education is limited, this means they have no means of buying the materials and workmanship to construct a greenhouse.

Working with the charity 'Living Heart Peru', we will travel to Viacha in August 2018 and build the locals the greenhouse from the money we, The Hatters Explorer Unit have fundraised. we will construct the greenhouse with the Living Heart Peru and have help from the Peruvian Scouts. This project will change the lives of all the adults and children in Viacha forever. Living Heart Peru have built greenhouses and means of agriculture for more accessible villages in Peru which have been a huge success.

Each explorer has donated £1000 themselves to finance their own travel and accommodation and aims to raise money for the materials and means to build this greenhouse with Living Heart Peru. Every pound donated will go straight to building this greenhouse and will go to directly helping the people and feeding children and families in Viacha.

This project successfully funded on 30th August 2017
